They've released so little about this guy. I wonder if NamUs is wrong and he is still alive? So are we to assume that the UID was deceased June 8/21 and the Namus file entered July 8? It's odd the Asheville PD haven't put out a news update. Everything I've pulled up is dated June 25 and before; no new updates regarding the change to deceased.
ETA: I'm wondering if the injuries were related to an assault rather than an accident and LE decided not to update to a homicide since they were hoping someone would come forward thinking the UID was still alive
When the NAMUS was first posted, he was listed as unidentified living. They've released so little about this guy. I wonder if NamUs is wrong and he is still alive?
Thanks Vic, I just noticed this one today. When the NAMUS was first posted, he was listed as unidentified living.

Touched up John Doe's face a bit, since we haven't seen an official reconstruction.
The mustache looks somewhat purposeful to me.That looks really good. Do you think the facial hair is a result of him being in hospital and that he was clean shaven when he was found? His mustache doesn't seem to be very long. Either that, or he's one of those guys who can't grow a decent beard or mustache.
Agreed, in the photos it looks like he's had the facial hair a long time. You can see the beard if you zoom in.The mustache looks somewhat purposeful to me.
Did you try a TinEye or Google reverse image search?
If he'd been arrested before though, they probably would have identified him through fingerprints, wouldn't they?
I wonder what happened to him. He appears to have some kind of tracheostomy to help him breath. It looks like he's also got some kind of feeding tube in his mouth. When I blow up the image of him provided by LE it appears that the skin on his forehead seems abraded or scarred from scalding or something. If he was scalded by something that would explain the tracheostomy.
MOO, but I think the tat is something as simple as a song he liked. Side A, Song 2.
My kids Dad had the side and song number as a tat from Aerosmith's song Dream On. Very similar to this John Doe's, except his actually had Aerosmith on the top part of the cassette.

I hope your assumption is correct and he can be returned to his family!I checked today and the NamUs profile is gone, so I am assuming he has been identified.
