On Feb. 1, 2005, in Rocky Mount, 56-year-old Carl Butler Jr. vanished from his house on Marlee Drive. Shortly before his disappearance, Butler had undergone surgery for a brain aneurysm. He had a feeding tube inserted in his stomach. His medication was left behind.

Details of Disappearance​

Butler was seen by his wife at their his home in the vicinity of the 700 block of Marlee Drive in Rocky Mount, North Carolina at 2:00 a.m. on February 1, 2005. Authorities believe he left his home between that time and 5:00 a.m., for unknown reasons.

He was last seen at approximately 6:00 a.m. by an off-duty police officer as Butler was walking near the corner of Meadowbrook and Vermin Road. He has never been heard from again. Few details are available in Butler's case; the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are unclear.

Circumstances of Disappearance: Butler’s wife last saw him watching television at 2 a.m., the morning of his disappearance. At 6 a.m., she found the back door open and Butler missing. He has a medical condition.

Last Seen Wearing: Striped shirt, dark blue jeans, white athletic shoes, brown light coat, and a patch on his right eye.

Identifying Marks or Characteristics: Tattoo of the name “Carl” on left arm and scars on his head, abdomen, and right side of neck.
