I was in the Maggie Valley area, not too far from where he was found today. Beautiful, peaceful day.

Body of missing Haywood Co. hiker Chad Seger found

From this article :

Emergency management said Seger briefly spoke with a family member by telephone on October 12. Later that evening, officials said an incomplete 911 call came in to Haywood County dispatch which could not be completed due to low signal strength.

This is heartbreaking if he tried to make a 911 call and couldn't connect. :( Many areas in the NC mountains have little or no cell service, even in touristy areas. Had this issue on my last trip to the Lake Lure area.

Rest peacefully, Chad. Thank you for your service.

I was going to note the same thing about the incomplete 911 call. Very tragic.

I feel like we see too many of our veterans and their loved ones enduring these tragic losses. And it’s happening to them younger and younger. It’s hard to know what we can do anymore because although surrounding them with love is a must, many return to us with trauma. Many of the things we know to do to provide comfort end up being triggers. I know how hard it can be for family members to witness this but I can’t even imagine what it must feel like for the ones who served, witnessed, and are forever changed.

I do not know specifics of what happened here or if it was even related to state of mind because it’s very possible injury or accident happened. But I do feel like we unfortunately have been seeing more and more military men/women leaving us too soon. My thoughts are with everyone during this difficult time.
