MISSING MAN: Charlotte-Mecklenburg police investigate disappearance of Charlotte man

Family members said Charles Pfeiler left his house riding a grey Trek mountain style bike and never came back.

Officials said he has not contacted family members since and there is concern for his safety.

Missing Charlotte Man Disappeared During Bike Ride: CMPD

According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department report, Charles Pfeiler, 48, left his home on Ashton Gate Drive in southeast Charlotte on a grey Trek mountain-style bike, headed to an unknown destination. His family called police around 8:45 p.m. July 18 to report him missing.

Large search effort now taking place after new info/evidence emerged...

Charlotte Fire Capt. Jackie Gilmore said they are starting the search over because of new evidence and information they received Sunday.

Police believe Pfeiler is nearby and might want to harm himself.

He left his cell phone at home, so friends and family couldn’t reach him.

After days of searching, missing Charlotte cyclist found dead, police say

his son Thomas Pfeiler said his father died by suicide the day he went missing.

Charles Pfeiler suffered from severe depression throughout his life, his son wrote. The family hopes to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues, according to the post.

“While we grieve our loss, we know our dad loved us, and that he would want us to encourage anyone struggling with mental illness to seek treatment and not wait,” Thomas Pfeiler wrote.
