Farm Worker Reported Missing

hod-farm.jpg

Deputies are asking for the public’s help locating a 35-year-old man who was last seen Feb. 2 at a Sampson County hog farm.

David “Van” Alphin was wearing coveralls and rubber work boots when he was last seen around 9 a.m. at the hog farm on Elwood Road, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Alphin’s family reported him missing nearly three weeks later on Feb. 22.

Alphin stands 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 110 pounds with blue eyes and blond hair.

The sheriff’s office said a white unknown SUV was seen in the area of the farm around the time Alphin went missing. But the sheriff’s office wouldn’t confirm it is connected to his disappearance.

If the left with someone, wouldn't he change from his work clothes?

If the left with someone, wouldn't he change from his work clothes?

I would have thought he would have changed. Years ago a friend of mine’s Daddy had a commercial hog farm ( don’t know if this is commercial). She told me that the workers had to shower and wear boots and clean overalls, etc every time before entering the hog parlor. I think they may have had to shower when leaving the barn. This could have just been protocol for this particular farm.

I wonder who reported seeing the white SUV? I hope there's no foul play involved with Van's disappearance. If anyone knows what happened to him, hopefully this reward will get someone to start talking. It scares me that he was last seen at a hog farm.

This is the only thing I found on Elwood Road that looked like a hog farm. If this is it, it appears to have grain silos. Aerial view also shows what appears to be a lagoon. Such a rural area that the white SUV report has me giving it the side-eye.

Clinton man charged with murder in Alphin case | Sampson Independent (clintonnc.com)
A Clinton man has been arrested in the murder of a local resident who has been missing since February, even as Sampson County Sheriff’s investigators continue to seek Alphin’s body. Upon announcing the arrest Monday, sheriff’s officials said malice was suspect from the start, and now maintain that evidence has been discovered to deem the case a homicide and lead to the arrest.

On Monday, James Eric House, 35, of 10497 N. US 421 Hwy., Clinton, was taken into custody at his residence without incident and formally charged with murder. He is accused of killing David “Van” Alphin, 35, whose family filed a missing persons report back on Feb. 22, 2021.

House was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center without privilege of bond.

Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said the case was a “very complex puzzle.”

Thornton thanked Sampson County residents for helping in the case.

“This has been a lengthy investigation, where investigators have suspected malice from the on-set. We are fortunate to live in a county where its citizens are willing to support and aide our investigators. Together, law enforcement and its citizenry cannot be stopped from putting an end to evil,” Thornton said in the news release.

What a tragic update :(
Still not knowing where DVA is only makes it worse.

I was terrified at the words hog farm... this is so awful in many ways, not that I’m saying his body was, well, left at the “farm”. It’s tragic. I’m thankful for an arrest and hopefully justice will be swift! Prayers for the repose of Van’s soul, and for comfort for the family and loved ones.

RIP Van. Sending peace and prayers to all who loved him.

The suspect is the neighbor of our close friends. They’ll be here this weekend, so I’ll get a local update.

Was his body found? :(
Not yet, though I think it's unlikely it will ever be found given that they worked on a hog farm. "Hogs'll eat about anything you give 'em and won't let nothing go to waste." Truer song lyrics don't exist. (From a Tyler Childers song, Bus Route)

I agree. You know how people talk and this is the talk that's going around. House hit Van with a blunt object while Van was working on a hog feedeer. Sorry son of 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 did that and poor Van was unaware. House fed him to the hogs. What they didn't finish, he put the remains in the incinerator. Hogs can devour a human body within minutes. House didn't cut off the feed supply which is why there were remains. House left him in there for 2 days before returning. House has a baby mama, she drives a white SUV. A white SUV was last seen at the location.
