Missing woman's body found

Authorities have found the body of a woman who had been missing since Nov. 8.

Deana Elizabeth Schermerhorn's body was found buried in thick woods not far from her rented home in Seven Devils, Chief Chuck Davis of the Seven Devils Public Safety Department said yesterday.

Authorities spotted what they thought might be a grave late Monday night. On Tuesday, when they returned to dig, they found the body.
The cause of Schermerhorn's death was not immediately clear. Her body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for autopsy.

Authorities are looking for her husband, Christopher Warren Meade, 26, for questioning and are asking for the public's help in finding him.

Can the originator of this thread or a moderator change the title to add "Found Deceased"?

I'm so sad about this outcome. According to local police, Deana was beaten and abused by her husband on several occasions; each time, he had charges filed against him, and then the charges were dropped/withdrawn by Deana shortly afterward. He never was punished for abusing her. The last time Deana's sister saw her, Deana had two black eyes.

Women, please learn, if a man hits you once, he will do it again. And again. And again. His assaults will grow in frequency and the level of damage he inflicts will increase.

Now we know for a fact that Deana's young son was right when he said "I ain’t never going to see mommy no more." Not here on Earth anyway ...

R.I.P. Deana. May the Lord bring great comfort to you.

Oh how sad. What a pretty and sweet looking woman with sisters who obviously adored her.

The only positive news is that the little boy (step son) was not killed.

Prayers for this family.....

R.I.P. Deana :rose:

I'm glad you've been brought home for the holidays. This little punk will never hurt you again.

I wonder if the child's statements match what they found with Deana?

Wow, I just dont know what to say. Poor lady.

Yeah, I would never ever let a man put his hands on me. I would be in jail for murder. I dont know why women let this stuff happen especially with a kid involved. Poor kid.

I hope they find this 🤬🤬🤬. How hard could it be?

Poor little thing. Sounds like they had a violent relationship for a long time. I suppose we should be grateful he didn't kill his son as well. Still, I will be very happy when they find this little punk.

Sad news about Deanna. She won't be in pain any more, but it's as sad that her little boy has to grow up without his mama. :(

Very sad..

this case had so little "hope" from the start...I felt certain that LE was holding back a lot of info, this was a search for a body from the beginning

I feel so sorry for her son....I think this was another case of "mom was wrapped up in a blanket"...very sad

<snip>

A few days after his wife disappeared, Meade drove to a relative's home and dropped off Schermerhorn's 4-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Meade also used his wife's credit cards after her disappearance, according to police. Bank cameras in Greensboro captured images of Meade using her bank card to withdraw money from an ATM some time before her body was found.

Last spring, authorities found the couple's abandoned sport utility vehicle in New Orleans. They said Meade was known to have crossed into Mexico, but they don't know where he is now.

More than a dozen tips came in when the story was broadcast nationwide on "America's Most Wanted" in August. None panned out. Fox affiliates are scheduled to air an update at 9 p.m. today on "America's Most Wanted."

Yay! May he rot in HE!!

I've tried to stay up to date on this case, but have failed. They found him in Mexico back in January it seems.

Justice for Deana!!!! And prayers for her little boy, who most likely witnessed her murder.

From September 2012:

http://www.hcpress.com/news/man-who...ico-pleads-sentenced-to-14-to-17-5-years.html

After killing Deanna Elizabeth Schermerhorn three years ago in their Seven Devils home and fleeing to Mexico, Christopher Warren Meade pled guilty to second-degree murder last Tuesday.

He was sentenced from a minimum of 14 years in prison to a maximum of 17.5 years and was credited for serving 620 days in Watauga County Detention facility. His felony financial credit card theft charge was dismissed, and he is ordered to pay $11,034 in court costs, restitution and other fines...

Forensic child psychologists interviewed her four-year-old child at Mission’s Children’s Clinic in Asheville on Nov. 19, 2009 – a month before Schermerhorn was found. According to documents in court records, “The minor child made statements about ‘his daddy’ (Chris Meade) using ‘sticky tape’ and wrapping his mother up in a blanket.” The child also made remarks about his father being ‘mean’ because he hit her and how he would never see his mom again.
