Emma Jean Collins, aka, Peanut,” police said. Collins was 17 years old when she was reported missing in August 1986. “She was reported missing by her grandmother from 920 Dawson Street”. Her grandmother did not know where Collins lived. “Emma Jean was a prostitute at the time and was also into drug activity.” Collins was last seen on July 10. On august 20th, her grandmother got a phone call. “She doesn’t know who it was and they told her that Peanut had died of a drug overdose, but we never found a body. We never had anything reported at that time to us.” police said. All they have now is an old mug shot. “There’s never been any follow up phone calls or any anonymous tips or anything,” police said.

I searched for the mugshot, but found nothing. She isn't listed on any missing persons sites. How sad.

I am a lifelong resident of Wilmington and am appalled this is the first I have heard of most of these cases! Only one in thr article I was aware of is Bobby Robinson. I have been actively looking at missing persons cases since 2005 as well. These should be added to CUE center for missing persons, our local NC missing site. I wonder if Monica Caison is aware of them.

Peanut's race isn't mentioned so I am considering all females in that time frame around that age range. This Doe tested positive for cocaine and Peanut was known to be involved in drug activity at the time of disappearance.

Circumstances of Discovery
The victim was located on June 16, 1987 in Toledo, Ohio, near Interstate 75. Her burning body was found in an alley near Detroit Avenue and Collingwood Boulevard.

The woman was wrapped in a tan tweed carpet and a pool cover, thrown into a bunch of weeds behind an abandoned auto body shop, and doused with gasoline. A passing motorist found her body, which was charred and decomposed beyond recognition. She probably died of a cocaine overdose several days earlier. The body showed no signs of trauma or injury besides those caused by the fire.

Authorities believe those who were with her panicked and dumped her body, but investigators haven't ruled out homicide. Investigators had searched the area extensively, including the weeds and roof of the body shop. They interviewed neighbors. They tried to match their Jane Doe with women missing from other states.

By the age of 17, she was a prostitute - where the heck were her parents? Did she end up in the foster care system? Why would the grandmother not know where her granddaughter lived? Who made this phone call and was there any clue as to where it came from, locally?

Circumstances of Discovery
The victim was located on January 24, 1988, when a man walking his dog discovered the skeletal remains in a valve/pumphouse at the old Publicker distillery property on State Road in Bensalem.

About 8 inches of water and oil fuel had to be pumped out of the vault-like structure to retrieve the remains. The pump house, which is mostly underground, houses pipes and valves that connect to a concrete storage tank, which was once used to store distilled spirits that had been manufactured at the distillery. The distillery was closed down in the early 70s. In 1974, the six huge storage tanks on the property were being used to store fuel oil, which in all likelihood was the cause of the oil found in the pump house. By the time the victim was found, the property had become an illegal dumping ground for stolen vehicles and was well known to local criminals.

Flyers with a picture of the above reconstruction were distributed to school guidance counselors and doctors' offices (particularly obstetrician/gynecologists), clinics and local police departments. Dental records were also distributed. There were, at the time, 50 missing person reports nationwide that fit the description of the woman, but all of them were eliminated from the investigation.

Interesting choice of words. Not murdered, not killed, just died. Makes me think of an overdose or medical condition.

“Circumstances of DisappearanceReporting party stated that she received a phone call from an unknown person stating that Collins had died. Several people in the neighborhood were also approaching the reporting party with the same information. Possibly in the company of "Felicia".”
