Interesting, two different DNA's, but yet they look like twins.
What do you mean, blood types? Where do you see this?

If Parabon labs don't cross check then CODIS would of the DNA profiles. There seems to be more countries highlighted and different percentage points for Faith's killer .

First post. I live in the area of Faith's death currently (was out of town in 2012 working). Due to this, I've only in the last few year's came across her tragic case. I was researching some other cases and came across a DNA Snapshot from a 2004 murder in Virginia. I thought it appeared similar enough to the one generated from Faith's case to ask for opinions . Here's a photo I took a photo of them side by side. Could be nothing and it probably is.
Welcome !

Since I last mentioned “genetic genealogy” several more old cases have been solved using it (in fact, about one per week) — but nothing specifically related to Faith’s case so I haven’t posted about them (though they’re interesting in their own right).
I will however link to this newest 45-yr.-old case that has just been solved (murder of a young girl in California; the now 72-yr.-old suspect apprehended):
DNA leads to man’s arrest 46 years after murder of 11-year-old Linda O’Keefe: ‘We have never forgotten Linda’

Linking to it because the technique described halfway into the article might be of interest to anyone here who is on Twitter. In 2018 the Newport Beach Police Dept. began posting a series of tweets as if it was the victim speaking from the grave! The article admits that the novel approach did not itself lead to the crime’s solution, but it did perhaps keep the 45+ year-old case alive and in front of the public, while new information was sought. I wonder if this isn’t a method the Chapel Hill Police Dept. would be willing to try (or anyone else active on Twitter)? I mean it’s free and nothing to lose, except a little time.
A couple of hashtags I've seen previously used for the Hedgepeth case on Twitter are: #JusticeForFaith and #Justice4Faith.

CADwrest linked to the News & Observer, the major newspaper in this area.

They take their reporting very seriously, and conform to pre-internet standards of journalism.

I agree the N & O is a reliable news source. But the autopsy report (which I read) has zero mention of rape and/or vaginal trauma. I have always thought that was weird. And wasn’t DNA reported to have been found “on” Faith? (Not in.) It’s confusing that the CHPD summary released later refers to sexual assault kit when the autopsy report omits any mention of sexual assault. CHPD has always been cagey about discussing rape/no rape. IMO, there’s something about the issue that is atypical, thus they refuse to elaborate.

Haven't looked at it yet, so no idea what to think of it, but there's yet another new podcast on the Hedgepeth case:
Crime in Color
(also available several other places besides Stitcher; I've lost track of how many podcasts on this case there have been just in the last year; at least 6 I think).

This is a small point I’m only bothering to mention because things are slow here, and I thought it odd…

...just stumbled upon the old official NC State Bureau of Investigation page posting Faith’s murder, and was struck by the wide time range listed for the crime anywhere from 2:40am. to 11am.
https://www.ncsbi.gov/Divisions/Legal/Cold-Cases/Faith-Hedgepeth.aspx

Many have complained for a long time that no ‘estimated time of death’ was ever publicly given for Faith, though it seems likely one was established, and for some reason withheld. Yet, this page almost makes it appear that LE has no clue! 11am is shortly before she was found (almost certainly the crime wasn’t that late?) and 2:40am is about the time KR & Faith arrived home, which appears to mean that police are not ruling out that FH was already dead when KR left at 4:30am. (of course many have argued this very scenario of an early crime upon arriving home, I'm just surprised to see the SBI lending it credence, and not offering a narrower time range).

That is what always disturbed me about this....

The genetic genealogy solved cold-cases seem to be popping up now close to 2 per week. I’m not mentioning most of them (since they’re unrelated to Faith’s case), but will link to this one just because,
a) it is quite old at 43 yrs. and,
b) the article gives a hint of what can be involved in making the final DNA match necessary for closing out the identification.

Complaint: DNA from envelope links man to 1976 Marinette County murders

Again most of the current cases I’m seeing are in the 25-45 yr.-old range, and it makes sense that cases where witnesses, key people, and suspects may be near demise or unavailability seem to be taking priority over younger cases like Faith’s.

Anyone who wants to follow along can simply register for a “Google alert” for “Parabon” and/or “genetic genealogy” and receive news (in email) several times a week of latest cases, which are almost always interesting. [I haven't looked but maybe there's even a thread somewhere on WS specifically covering such cases?]

no new information, but another summary/overview of the case from another internet sleuther:
https://www.estcrime.com/faith-hedgepeth

good that the case keeps getting re-addressed (and kept in public eye) as an unsolved crime in need of attention.

No specific mention of Faith's case, but a quite interesting article on the growth of genetic genealogy forensic work and mention of a second private company getting into the business to compete with Parabon Labs for the growing amount of business out there:
What the Golden State Killer Tells Us About Forensic Genetics

The podcast The Murder Squad with Billy Jensen and Paul Holes has a new episode that talks about Faith's case. I heard to it this morning and it's worth a listen. Fair warning if you don't like this sort of thing, Karena's 911 call is played in the episode.

I just started listening and the woman Kelly has answered a lot of questions I’ve had...
1. Marisol was at Thrill (which I speculated) with girls that night
2. Marisol told Faith’s family they arrived at apartment around 10 AM (911 call wasn’t made until 11:01 AM)
3. Confirms both JMcC and JB picked up Karena. Both men’s phones pinged in the same area.
Just my take aways for now...still listening

This was interesting and they concurred with the same things that jumped out at me. How does KR sleep? I wish they’d wrap this case up!

Paul Holes (of The Murder Squad podcast) helped break the case against the GSK, so it's great to see Faith's case getting attention from mainstream crime writers/bloggers/podcasters. I just listened and I think it was another summation of the facts with some opinions from the hosts. No earth shattering findings.

Agreed. But it was a good review of the case and maybe it will reach new people.

For some reason, I got an idea in my head that they need to re-test and do new comparisons of DNA in this case. I have this nagging feeling that they think they’ve ruled out people who might actually be the killer, because there is something wrong with the DNA testing.

It has happened before!

Or the dna they found and tested may be a red herring, planted by someone trying to deflect suspicion away from themself. I still don’t understand what finding dna “on” the victim means. There’s nothing about this dna in the autopsy report.
