good points. perhaps this is slogging along by design of his defense team. Just because you have a right to a speedy trial does not mean you have to use it? hmmm
Not sure whether this makes it better or worse but I'd imagine the right to a speedy trial comes into play AFTER the indictment. I think that's why this one has always seemed to strange... There were virtually no updates after his arrest, for 3 years!

I hope this means that there will be some movement on this case finally. It’s dragged on way too long. I feel so bad for her family.

That has got to be the shortest "article" about an update in a murder case that I've ever seen. 5 sentences?
WRAL prefers weather coverage and Fayetteville crime

Interesting. I was always wondering why no rape charge. Finally. But why did it take so long?
If I had to guess, it was because they just needed a charge to hold him, and murder was enough to do that. Maybe the additional charges presage the beginning of an actual trial? One can only hope.

well, I'll offer a more complicated possible explanation for argument's sake: as far as I know all the original reports indicated semen was ONLY found on Faith's clothes or bedlinen (NOT within her) -- thus she may have only been "raped" with a physical object (one of the bottles?), in which case IF there was a 2nd individual in the room, that person could conceivably be the 'rapist' and not MESO.... maybe it took this long to confirm (in law enforcement's eyes) that MESO wielded the object, and not some 2nd perp/accomplice. (I keep wondering to what degree, if any, is law enforcement stiiiiiiiiill investigating possible accomplices???)

If they don't have the evidence to charge a second person at this point, then it's never going to happen.

We know more about the insurance CEO shooter in two days than the CHPD has been able to tell us about this case in 4 years. I continue to be baffled by how glacially slow this case moves.

Can’t imagine how hurtful (almost slow torture) this must be for those remaining of Faith’s family & friends. Originally, with MESO’s arrest law enforcement claimed the case was NOT closed and the investigation continued… so, 3 years later, with indictments drawn, does that mean the case is finally a wrap or stiiiiiiiill ongoing? Silence is, at least baffling, or at worse irresponsible & bungling. Ought we expect Luigi to go to trial before MESO ever does?

Luigi has already confessed, so presumably he's not going to trial. Maybe that's part of the difference, MESO won't confess; from what little I've gathered, he's still insisting that he's innocent.

But the guy from the Idaho Moscow case is maintaining his innocence as well, and that case is moving at turbo-speed in comparison to this one.

My guess is that law enforcement never intended to distinguish between any sort of location anywhere on (or in) Faith's body when they mentioned the semen.

It may just be another nothingburger :( but a reminder that MESO's next "Administrative Hearing" is this coming Thur. (1/16) at the Durham Courthouse 10am.

FWIW, WRAL local news did mention the hearing on their early newscast this morning, so hopefully that means they'll have someone there covering it in case anything of note happens.
