IREDELL COUNTY, NC — An Iredell County mother was arrested and charged in the death of a five-month-old baby who died Sunday after being left in a car seat inside a car for several hours, Iredell County Sheriff's Office said Thursday afternoon.

Madison Cassidy Moore, 26, was arrested April 29 and charged with felony involuntary manslaughter.

ICSO said it received an emergency call Sunday reporting a baby in respiratory distress at a locatoin on Old Mountain Road in Statesville, north of Troutman.

"When the responding deputies arrived on scene, Troutman Fire, and Iredell County EMS were already at the location," ICSO said in a statement. "The child was pronounced deceased by emergency personnel."

"This is consistent with the suspect making statements about leaving her child in a car seat, inside the car, for several hours on Sunday," ICSO said.

A North Carolina mother was taken into custody after her 5-month-old baby girl died in a hot car. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrested Madison Cassidy Moore for felony involuntary manslaughter. Sheriff Darren Campbell said the baby was found deceased after being left inside a car for several hours parked outside a home on Old Mountain Road near Troutman. Moore was initially placed under a $75,000 bond.

This is the first hot car-related child death in the United States for 2021.

I can usually have compassion for babies left in cars "at work" but at home??? For five hours??

Yes, a five month old needs attention several times in that five hours in the day.

I'm guessing this was no accident.

If her mother couldn't take care of her, she should have given her to someone who could.

SMH -- My first thought, too. Just a feeling somehow.

Yep -- as said earlier in this thread, I guess the season has started. SMH.
When will people learn? Or, in some cases we have seen, I guess some people have indeed learned all about it. SMH. A horrible way for an innocent little human being to die.

The inconsistencies of how parents are treated in "Hot Car" deaths bothers me.

Arrest them all, or let them all go free. But don't "pick and choose" who should be allowed to skate after killing their baby, and who should go to prison.
