'It was such a brutal crime:' Autopsy report shows Fort Bragg soldier was decapitated

*warning, some details may be considered graphic

Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez, 21, was killed in May 2020 while he was camping with fellow soldiers on an island at Cape Lookout National Seashore.

The autopsy report, which is from the Division of Forensic Pathology at East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine, lists the cause of death as "homicide by undetermined means." It was digitally signed by Dr. Randall K. Falls Jr. on Nov. 4.

The autopsy examined a severed head, as neither the torso nor any extremities were available, according to the report. It showed evidence of multiple chop injuries, a broken jaw, cuts and a fractured cervical spine.

Roman-Martinez's sister, Griselda Martinez, said she and other members of his family first saw the autopsy report Thursday. She said it was difficult to read some of the details, including that her brother's eyes were missing and his hair had been pulled out.

Martinez said family members felt like they needed to read the report.

"Everything about this case doesn't make sense," she said.
Strange, a head with no hair or eyes and no body. Some sort of sacrificial killing or ritual. Maybe be a serial killer who likes doing gruesome things to people.

i think crabs prob ate his eyes. not sure about the hair.

The crescent shape cut is another clue. The authorities don't seem to have a suspect or suspects. They most likely know what means we're used to decapitate him.

JUST THINKING OF ANY LITTLE DETAIL THAT MAY HELP.

In one of the above links I quoted, the Army requested anyone who may have seen a white/silver Jeep that Fri or Saturday to contact them.
Possibilities:
Let’s just say someone saw it Saturday with EM hanging off the side. That in itself would mess the friends’ time frame up.
They stated he left the campsite around midnight & was still gone that morning (Sat morning) and they hadn’t seen him since. That couldn’t be the case if they were joyriding around the beach area and EM was seen with them that morning.
Possibly, something very tragic happened while they were riding around that Saturday morning and that is why it took them so long to place the 911 call.

Now, let’s say someone saw them riding Friday. After establishing a time, they could see if it fits in the time frame of the group being on the ferry, setting up camp, etc.
If the white/ silver Jeep they were looking for came over by ferry, wouldn't there be records kept by ferry company stating who owned it.

Crescent shape cut marks could be made with your basic bush whacking machete....moo

Not your run of the mill homicide case where someone disappears and is found deceased later. Strange case IMO.

Terrible ordeal that his family has had to deal with. Bad enough that he was missing but learning about some details of his death will haunt family members forever. More than one person knows what happened to Enrique but isn't talking, shame on them. I never did like the term "Closure" especially when person is never found or when found they don't know who caused their death, and got away with it. Closure happens when a death is due to illness or accident.

Episode 35 - Specialist Enrique Roman-Martinez - Military Murder Podcast

The 911 call is in the first one (episode 35); the link above should take you to that particular podcast.
Great podcast mlhenn, thanks for posting the link. How many times during the 911 call was the caller asked "When was the last time he (Enrique) was seen ?" The caller repeatedly said "When we went to bed around midnight. He repeatedly lied right then and there. The last time he was allegedly seen was when his tent blew over and several of his buddies helped him fix it, but he never said that. That story might have been a lie too to make it look like he went to bed. We don't know if all 8 were together all day long or not. Maybe the tent blowing over was told to one or two of them who asked "Hey, where's Enrique ?" When is the last time you saw him ?" I thought at the very beginning of this case that maybe Enrique was one of the two people hanging off the silver/white jeep and some sort of accident happened. Wasn't the other vehicle racing the jeep and maybe it got too close and that's how he died. Enrique's tent might have been set up and his belongings might have been in it but maybe he never was even in his tent even though one person said they saw him walk off. Someone and maybe all 7 are hiding the fact he died as a result of the jeep accident during the first day there. They may have hidden his body somewhere including in the sand until they took him to the lighthouse/jetty area. His head could have been dismembered by the accident. Why didn't they tell the rangers about their missing buddy when they were asked to move their illegally parked vehicle/ vehicles ? At least some of the 7 and maybe all of the 7 were engaged in a cover-up that's why. Terrible, terrible thought just occured to me. Maybe his body is still buried in the sand and that's why it has never been found.

Army continues to investigate homicide of Fort Bragg paratrooper

UPDATE
August 5, 2021

The Army Criminal Investigation Command increased the award in the homicide case of Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez to $50,000, according to a news release issued this week.

“We are increasing the reward in the hopes of developing new credible leads to determine exactly what happened to our soldier,” CID special agent Steve Chancellor said in the news release. “We do not want to leave any stone unturned.”

The Army CID’s news release states that “agents have investigated suspected illegal drug use on the evening of May 22, 2020,” but does not indicate if any evidence was found to support that suspicion.

According to the news release, a specialized task force comprised of CID agents, FBI employees and the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit has executed more than 100 warrants and subpoenas, conducted more than 400 interviews and returned to the island seven times to conduct air, land and sea searches for additional evidence.

Investigators have traveled to Michigan, Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and California for interviews and to follow up on all investigative leads.

Chancellor said the Task Force has not recovered a single piece of physical, forensic, or testimonial evidence linking anyone to the death of Roman-Martinez.

There have been searches of evidence from cellphones and vehicles along with more than 130 items analyzed at the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory in Atlanta, Georgia.

None of the items revealed any trace of blood, DNA, or other forensic evidence, the CID news release states.

Inconsistencies in account of paratrooper’s disappearance and homicide trouble his family

July 2021
A group of Fort Bragg paratroopers told a 911 dispatcher on the evening of May 23 that they spent all day searching for Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez, as well as local authorities, after Martinez disappeared during their camping trip in North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

But hours before placing the 911 call, the group did run into U.S. Park Rangers. Why the campers didn’t report the disappearance then has been “one of the burning questions,” Martinez’s older sister, Griselda Martinez, told Army Times.

The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division is treating Martinez’s death as a homicide, CID spokesman Chris Grey confirmed. But Grey could not comment on the inconsistencies in the other campers’ narrative of events, citing the ongoing investigation.

Griselda and the rest of her family have not spoken with those soldiers, and they don’t know their names. Army officials attributed the inconsistency to carelessness, Griselda recalled.

idk what average numbers are but 130 items analyzed and 100 warrants seems like a ton, yet no evidence has linked anyone? I wonder if evidence is pointing towards a POI but the link is not outright stated yet.
Also with the large amount of investigation, I wonder if LE are thinking that someone else, not mentioned yet, is involved. I know all info up to now has led to the popular theory that his camping friends are involved (MOO), but perhaps something is going on behind the scenes.

This doesn't really change my general estimation of what happened, a very avoidable reckless accident that was cleaned up and a pact of silence made. It's not unusual among the ruthless for a body to be cut up for transport and/or disposal. Maybe each member of the group removed one extremity so they would all be equally complicit.

That sounds like a very likely and plausible theory. Being that these boys are so young it is possible one day their conscious will cause them to confess it all to a spouse when they are older and it may come out then

In rare move, Army CID raises reward to $50K to solve paratrooper’s mysterious death

Now, CID is offering up to $50,000 for credible information concerning the death of the 21-year-old Fort Bragg paratrooper, who went missing late at night on May 22, 2020, while camping with fellow soldiers near Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina.

“This is the first one to hit this level in more than 10 years,” CID spokesman Jeffrey Castro said of the large sum of money being offered for information.

Note the following information:
•While Roman-Martinez’s death is ruled a homicide, according to Chancellor, it doesn’t necessarily mean it was a murder.

•“That means that the death could have been intentional or it could have been unintentional — for example in this case, someone running over someone with a boat while the person was in the water,” Chancellor said.

•Army CID and the FBI are strongly encouraging asking anyone with information to come forward.

•If you were operating a boat near Cape Lookout National Seashore on the night of May 22-23, 2020, and recall hitting something in the water, or if you have any other information, regardless of how trivial it might seem, please come forward, said Chancellor.

This is starting to make me think the Army CID feels like Enrique died in this manner ???
