It's definitely on the slow track.

Reviewing the case again today and reminded McLellan was indicted in May 2019, and in early June, the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office announced it would seek the death penalty. They added a second lawyer as DP cases require and I don't think the case has moved since.

Held without bond. DA will seek DP.

*Charged (12/10/18) & indicted (1/7/19) with 1st degree rape & 1st degree burglary. $5M bond. Revoked (12/10/18).

There is a new court date for the kidnapping, Case Number 18CR055491 - 6/30/2020, courtroom 003A, AM Session.

Unfortunately, that's the only case I see. MOO

Okay, next hearing on 6/30/20 -- but no mention of TRIAL, and Courtroom 0002A was not listed for action today, same as last time we checked.
But a DP case does take more hearings, and the suspect must have a DP-qualified attorney, as does the Prosecutor's office.
Grrrrr.
So we wait...

This is what I found -- no details are given other than what you see here. And please notice that the action is in District Court, so it won't be a trial, since trials are handled in Superior Court. It may just be about Death Penalty and needing more prep time, or a discovery problem, scheduling, or whatever. We're moving at a snail's pace here. SMH. So we wait...

These things take long enough as it is, nature of the beast if you want a fair system, but still. I can only imagine court proceedings taking even longer now with covid and how frustrating that must be for the families, to have to wait so long to get justice for their children. Hania's murderer will get what's coming, it just sucks that it has to take so long.
