Do you recall the young lady around 13/14 that was kidnapped by a man who had been knocking on doors to houses that had ‘For Sale’ sign. The parents left town to go to another state for an overnight function, leaving the 16 year old in charge of 2 younger sisters.
The man knocked on and when enquiring about the sale of the house, the girls wouldn’t let him in as they thought he was creepy and being naive they said ‘you will have to come back when our parents return ‘. So he then knew that they were home alone. He lay in wait and the 16 yr old left in her car to go pick up pizzas, leaving the two younger girls at home. He took his chance and knocked again and this time he forced his way in and when the older sister returned she was faced with seeing her siblings under threat from him. He took the middle age of the three girls out through the garage and drove off in the sisters car so nobody ( neighbours) thought anything of it . He later dumped the car because it was traceable and made off on foot with the girl.
LE searched far and wide and got the public to do line searches in nearby fields and land because there was a huge amount of land to be covered. He made the girl get underwater with him in a dirty swampy river so that the dogs detected no scent. Once he thought the dogs and searchers had left, he took the girl and buried her under leaves etc and started to cross the land .
Unknown to him the search team returned ( I think at sundown ).
They found him and a local searcher found the girl, cold, hungry, caked in mud and scared, but alive. It went on ( if memory serves me right) for about 70 hours I think .

Other than psychological injury, she suffered no real other injury.

I can’t recall their name or when / where it happened BUT the reason for my rambling post is that this possibly could be what’s happened to this young lady. So let’s keep the hope and positivity alive x

Edit to add that from memory I think he tied up the eldest girl but the youngest hid in the closet so he was unaware of her prescense and she was able to get to the older sister and raise the alarm

It was Steve Cochran with Katie Romanek in 1994 - Lodi

Do you recall approximately how old the perp was in that case?
It was in 1994 in Lodi
Steve Cochrane was the perpetrator and Kate Romanek the victim

I just googled yellow bandanas. They are in stock at Party City, which has a location in Fayetteville.
Also online at Walmart. And Claire’s. And Oriental Trading Company.
Many landscapers where I live wear bandanas- keeps dust and dirt and pollen out of your nose.
Lots of farms in the area as seen on the maps associated with this case.
Could have been given out at church event or VBS(Vacation Bible School) or summer school activity.

Do we know the “spirit” colors for the schools?

As @BlkMtnGirl said above, Lumberton High School's colors are maroon & gold -- the same when I went to LHS when I grew up in Lumberton. We never wore yellow bandannas "back then." Our mascot was a Pirate.
It's been years, but I kind of doubt that yellow bandannas are used there now for team spirit. JMO.

I’ve got out of towners coming in today, so I may not be on much, if at all, till later tonight. Praying to come back to find good news about Hania.
Keep up the good work, WSers!
Dear sleuther0192837465,

Great idea!

This is something that the F.B.I. are likely checking out because people usually go to the same store and sometimes daily.

Habits - such as the same store people usually drop in frequently when they just need milk.

Someone in a store in that area could possibly give more details if they are able to identify the person in the video.
@zencompass Thanks :) I couldn’t stop thinking about the guy in the video & the fact that the car window was partially down. It hit me this morning that if he is a smoker, maybe the cigarette butts will be found...that would give LE a brand/type of cigarette that that man smokes (IF he smokes & IF that guy knows more or is connected to Hania in some way) & they can somehow connect it to a name(through clerks in a store he frequents), while they wait for evidence to come back from processing the car (& hopefully found cigarette butts).
I want so badly for Hania to be found & reunited with her family, I’m trying to think of something helpful.

Dear sleuther0192837465,

Nuclear DNA has been retrieved from cigarette butts. Here's hoping.

Even if his DNA is not in CODIS, as others have stated here, this would be solid evidence against the perpetrator, when he is found.

Also - Lumberton is two seconds away from the 95 exit which stretches from Maine to Florida. It is also about 40 mins south of I40, which I believe goes from east to west coast. I know someone mentioned 95 before, but thought I'd mention 40, as well.

Thanks for this, bettiecracka,

I keep thinking about "two seconds away from the 95 exit".

Makes me think this was planned and he was just watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity.

Just throwing some random thoughts and impressions

*He was bold and daring to do what he did.
Which hints to me that criminal activity was not new to him. He has done other crimes in his past.

*He had to know the area based on where he put the vehicle.

*From the walking video and early hours he gave me the impression that he may not have had a permanent place to stay. Not sure if he was homeless but would not be surprised to learn if he was homeless. Maybe had a friends house that was letting him sleep over.

*He did not have his own vehicle that he owned or at least did not have one that ran. Otherwise he would have been driving it on the day we saw him walking in early morning hours.

*His motive of taking her was mainly getting her because if he wanted money out of the vehicle then I dont think he would have taken her with him. As soon as he took her then the car was immediately too "hot" and could not be sold or salvaged for money. That is why it had to be abandoned.

The only thing I am still wondering about is if we got accurate information as to whether she may have been in the vehicle sitting and warming it up before he approached it. Reports seemed to imply she was outside the vehicle and he made her get in the vehicle. However that part seemed a little fuzzy to me depending on which witness you want to view statements for. It just seemed rather vague to me. That detail is so important because if she was actually in the vehicle then he may have mainly wanted the car and got surprised she was in there as he took off. Of course even then he could have shoved her out so Im leaning towards he did want to mainly get her and not the car. Just wish that was perfectly clear where she was when he approached.

*I do think he was closely following the news of the abduction because it seemed to me that he panicked after videos and pictures of the vehicle was released and he got rid of it after news got hot about the vehicle. But then again he could have dumped it right away because we really dont know how long it was sitting in lot.

(BBM, Summarized By Me)

May I suggest, our own WS prayer vigil for Hania at...
7PM EST
6PM CST
5PM MST
4PM PST

Just a quiet moment to ourselves, online, together, asking for her safe return.

At the prescribed time, just post with "Praying for Hania"

optional/voluntary/jmho

You may do this on your own privately in the inbox/conversation area but it is not allowed out on the public board.

Considering the location where the SUV was found vs the place she was abducted, I’m now thinking it’s less likely that proximity to I-95 played a role in this case. Hania’s home is 2 seconds away from 95...Quincey Road is not. It would take local knowledge to find Quincey Rd. (Just my feeling as a local)

Re BBM and JMO
Thanks as this confirms what most of us think as well.

From reading all the posts it seems most all of us feel he had to have had some knowledge of the area to know to put that vehicle in that particular lot.

That is one thing that is new news today for me. I am now convinced he had some knowledge of that town. Whether from his past and is back in town or whether he has been staying here lately.

Thanks...I think either is a little hinky and a huge coincidence.
I actually had the same thought before I found that the humidity in Lumberton was more than 75% so made sense that it would help to pre-warm vehicle in the morning to get rid of windshield/window condensation before driving. Also read of increased car thefts in the area which could explain Aunts caution. MOO

I know we’ve already asked this, but it’s important—why exactly didn’t the aunt want Hania to warm up the car? I’m in NC. There has been some stubborn wetness on the windows in the morning, but I haven’t warmed up my car since February. It’s only seemed to help to wipe the windows with a towel. There is also a lot of property theft in this state. Many here know not to warm up there car with the keys in it and leave it unattended. I know we all did that years ago, but not a good idea now. I also walk out to the car in the morning (to go to work) with my husband. Every morning. I know not everyone can do that, but you have to be very alert during this time. A lot of people leave the house every day, alone, and that is extremely predictable if you are watched. Also coming home. Unless this guy had helpers, I think they need to focus on the ground search.

Are you speaking in general or has DNA been retrieved from cig butt on this case? If so, I missed the link! Help, please! TIA
