The neighbors in the interview last night said there was an "old abandoned well" nearby. I wonder if that's the "body of water" they mean?

I was pulled into a conference call during the presser....missed the whole thing. But, I'm up-to-date thanks to the ever-awesome WS transcribers.

Thank you!

And it's time for another ((group hug)) as we hear confirmation of the sad news. My heart goes out to her family and friends. This is a significant event in her classmates' lives as well - they will never forget.

Whoever said it feels like a "Jessica moment", if you mean Jessica Ridgeway, I agree. I followed both cases from the beginning. Even though you fear for the worst, you nonetheless hope for a positive outcome. So sad to think that there are people out there that don't see how precious our children are.

That's what I'm thinking - especially with the comments that she was not visible. She was put in a specific place of hiding, imo.

Speculation only.

Presser notes 11/28/18

Police Chief Michael McNeill…
  • "We are absolutely devastated. I wish we had a different outcome for Hania’s family, for the community she lived in, and for the hundreds of LE officers and searchers who put everything they had in finding her and bringing her back alive.”
  • "We believe that we have found the body of 13 year old Hania Aguilar"
  • The body was found in a body of water off Wire Grass Rd in Robeson County
  • Today the State ME official said preliminary tests indicates the body they found is Hania’s
  • Final confirmation will be done doing a dental records comparison
  • “Please continue to pray for Hania’s family, and each other as the investigation continues.”
  • Asked the community and those on SM to stop spreading rumors
  • They’re not going to discuss any other circumstances around the body or condition of the body; they want the media and community to be respectful and do not ask about conditions of the body
  • ME will conduct autopsy to determine cause of death.
  • “Our work is not over. We will not stop. We will not stop until we find the person or persons responsible and we bring them to justice. We will not stop until we do that.”

FBI Senior Supervisory Resident Agent Andy de la Rocha…
  • "Our work is far from over. We need to find out how she died, who did this to her, and we have to bring the person or persons responsible to justice."
  • "Please call us if you have information to help. Don't post rumors on social media. Don't share speculation about this case."
  • "By putting things out there that are blatantly false, and that are not released by the Lumberton Police Department, the FBI, the SBI, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, are false. They're misleading. They're simply inaccurate.
  • Last night after finding Hania, they processed the scene. They secured the scene very late last evening, because they wanted to get their eyes back on where she was found during daylight hours. Investigators and crime scene officials went back to Wire Grass Rd and recovered additional evidence, and made sure anything that was relevant was collected.
  • Asking again to call if anyone has video that can help determine when and how Hania came to be laid where the investigators found her yesterday.

Some notes from Press Q&A
  • Re: agents finding her there - both the FBI agents and the LPD detectives were in that area yesterday. There is a large amount of both private and public land that they've been searching since Nov 5. While LE was searching that area, they came upon the area where they found Hania.
  • Re: anything found at the crime scene that may help catch the perp - there is evidence that is both at the scene, there is evidence from tips from the public, evidence published as far as CCTV footage - to include what was found last evening, all of it will help piece together what happened to Hania.
  • The area they were last evening and today is not visible from the road.
  • No POI at this time.
  • Not able to determine how long the body was there.
  • Not able to determine how long she may have been with her captor(s).
  • Re: public's concern about someone still out there - reminded the public to always remain vigilant.
  • Re: suspect still in the area? - no comment
  • Re: what led to that area - 7-10 days ago they started targeting the area along Wire Grass Rd because a number of tips that came in through the tipline. That led them to ask people along Wire Grass Rd to check CCTV footage; it's a wide-open area, a lot of wet-land, wooded area, a lot of private land. It was a deliberate plan to get out there.
  • Re: was she killed there, or was body dumped - no info at this time if she was killed there, or elsewhere
  • Was her body easy to find, or was it buried under any debris - Not something that was obvious. Where she was was not visible from the road.
  • Not going to use the term pond; it is a body of water. Not formally a pond.
  • The reward is still $30,000.

Dear rainynights,

Thank you so much for this transcript.

The FBI guy said they are working with the Prosecutors office. Can someone tell me why they would be working with them if they don't have a suspect? The only thing I can think of are warrants which means they may/could have someone in mind. AT NO TIME DID HE SAID THAT THOUGH (TO BE CLEAR). IMO

He also said he wouldn't comment if the suspect was still in the area or where they may be. Even though they say no person of interest I think there's one or more. A tip or tips lead them to that area so they know something.

That's what I'm thinking - especially with the comments that she was not visible. She was put in a specific place of hiding, imo.

Speculation only.

He mentioned he didn't want to say it was rain water or a pond but a body of water.

Since LE was actively searching that particular area, they must have strong leads. I hope that means they'll have someone arrested asap!

  • #1,009
To clarify, he said there is no person of interest.
Thanks. Corrected original post to read No POI (trying hard not to be part of the rumor spreaders)

  • #1,010
No POI? I thought some guy admitted it.

that was reported by a sneaker blogger and it got into here. I think he should be charged as well. Freedom of speech and reporting stuff that he did could be considered defamation of character ( even if he is scum) 2 different things in my book. IMO

  • #1,011
Didn't the couple that was interviewed last night say that there is a swamp area back there, not a pond???? could that be the body of water they are talking about? IMO

Yes, probably why the FBI guy said he wouldn't call it a pond. It might be a swampy area. Maybe a marshland? I'm not sure of the difference though...

  • #1,012
No POI? I thought some guy admitted it.

Nope. Fake news by a NC blogger who has been arrested several times for publishing incorrect/defaming info. He posts social media rumors and and outright lies.

  • #1,013
Bless her little heart, it breaks mine to think of how she fought and screamed when she was taken and can't imagine the rest. I really hoped that she would be found alive somewhere.

Body found in Robeson identified as Hania Aguilar, officials say :: WRAL.com

Law enforcement authorities said Wednesday that a body found yesterday in Robeson County is believed to be that of missing teen Hania Aguilar, who was snatched from outside her family's mobile home three weeks ago.

[...]

"We believe we have found the body of 13-year-old Hania Aguilar," Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeill said during a press conference. "But the final confirmation will be done by dental comparisons."

Andy De La Rocha, a senior FBI agent, said investigators have not identified a person of interest in connection with the girl's slaying. And he urged anyone with information about the case to call the tip line at 910-272-5871. A reward for information that leads to an arrest still stands at $30,000, he said.

The body that was found Tuesday afternoon off Wire Grass Road in Robeson County was located around 4:45 p.m., less than 10 miles from the girl's home. The area was not visible from the road and the body was found in a small pond, authorities said Wednesday.

[...]

"The body is believed to be Hania, but the identity has not yet been confirmed. This is an unfortunate end to an extensive search and we are committed to supporting all students and staff as they cope with the heartbreaking tragedy."

BBM. The tips they got might just be locals who smelled a bad smell last week. One of the local reporters interviewed a couple who lives nearby. They said they thought it was a dead animal and did not call police about the smell but someone else who lives in that area might have called. JMO.

ETA: here is the interview with the neighbors:

Wire Grass Road acreage consists of fields, woods, and ponds but no confirmed report of body recovered from water.
It has now been confirmed that Hania's body was found in a body of water. (ref. presser)

This was shared before by one of our nice posters and is their guess of the location based on helicopter footage from last night. I think it is probably very close to the spot where she was found because there is water right there.

No arrest or confession in 13-year-old Hania Aguilar's kidnapping

No arrest or confession in 13-year-old Hania Aguilar's kidnapping
"No arrests have been made and certainly no confession," said Shelley Lynch Public Affairs Specialist for the FBI Charlotte Division.

Lynch reiterated in an email that if this story were true, media outlets "would hear it" from Lynch.

THENCBEAT.com first reported the now-viral story. The article cites unnamed sources saying 34-year-old Michael Ray McLellan is the man responsible for the kidnapping of 13-year-old Hania Aguilar in early November.

"SOURCE" THENCBEAT.com is managed by Gerald Jackson, of Onslow County. Jackson was arrested in October and charged with cyber bullying. Jackson has two previous cyber stalking convictions.

ETA: All posts referencing the link "THENCBEAT" are FALSE. The "Source" cited has several arrests for cyber bulling and cyber stalking , and inmate accused in this report should file charges against this "source." Link is NOT MSM.
