As the search for Hania Aguilar nears week three, authorities are calling on the public for their help to track her down. Hania's family just spent Thanksgiving without her, and members of the community are also becoming more concerned.

Nineteen days ago the 13-year-old was taken from her front yard before school.
There are still no signs of her or her abductor.

Although detectives said tips from the community are coming in, they want surveillance video. Authorities are expanding that request for video to all of Robeson County, including hunters with deer cameras.

Authorities want images in the area of Rosewood Mobile Home Park off Elizabethtown Road and Quincey Drive between Nov. 5 and 8, where Hania was snatched and the stolen getaway vehicle was found.

The FBI is asking people to look around their properties and call the tip line if they notice anything out of the ordinary, or if they see a person acting strangely. The tip line is (910) 272-5871.

Speaking from personal experience here--the same thing would be happening in the poor parts of Boston, or the rural area where I grew up. People are afraid of retaliation from the criminals and know the police can't protect them. When you live in a poor area, you assume they don't want to protect you. If you talk to the police on this case, you might talk to them again when it's a drug case, so you're marked as a potential or actual informant. And you also assume that if there's anything the police can get you for while they're looking for video, you'll be in jail before the murderers.

P.S. Should have said "Many people" rather than making it sound like a universal thing...

Search for Hania Aguilar nears week 3
LUMBERTON, N.C. (WTVD) --

Authorities want images in the area of Rosewood Mobile Home Park off Elizabethtown Road and Quincey Drive between Nov. 5 and 8, where Hania was snatched and the stolen getaway vehicle was found.
They also said rumors about this investigation on social media are hindering their efforts.

FBI officials are also asking the public to be on the lookout for a distinctive pair of shoes belonging to Hania that were recently purchased by her family.

They are Adidas white sneakers with black stripes and have a colorful stitching on the back heel of the shoe.

Just heard on news LE asking public to be aware of the shoes Hania was wearing (shown in the photos taken day before she disappeared) They are different and "kidnapper" may be trying to get rid of them.
Thanks happy 128 just posted story/link too

So my question would be regarding warming up the car, was she told to do this or did she ask to do this? According to the above statement, she never does this. If she wanted to do it, I would think she would maybe be sitting in the car to stay warm. Everything I read makes me wonder about something else.
Wonder about something else being ???

Sorry, this is such a non issue for me. My kids would race each other ( only in the wintertime) too get ready for school in time to be the one to start the car. While there, they would adjust radio to their station. Just the way we rolled!

The Lumberton Police Department and the FBI are asking the public to be on the lookout for a pair of shoes that belong to 13-year-old Hania Noelia Aguilar. Hania’s family recently purchased a new and very distinctive pair of sneakers for her. They are Adidas brand, white sneakers with black stripes, and colorful stitching on the back heel of the shoe. “Think through what you’ve seen since November 5th, have you seen a discarded pair of shoes, did someone try to sell you shoes, did they show up in a donation bin? We want to make sure we draw attention to the shoes because they are distinctive and the kidnapper could try and get rid of them for that reason,” said FBI Supervisory Senior Resident Agent Andy De la Rocha.

Investigators have run down dozens of leads over the last few weeks related to the shoes, now is the appropriate time to ask for additional help from the community as a precautionary measure to make sure we've exhausted all options with the shoes.

Can't answer it, I will be on time out. None of any of this makes sense to me. But at some point I am sure it will all come out in the end as they say.

So I have to wonder what makes them believe she is not with her shoes? Are they thinking the kidnappers took them so she can't run, where ever she is. That is a tactic they use, they will keep the person bare foot or naked so they can't take off.

Lumberton mobile home residents concerned, scared after girl's kidnapping

“Aguilar went out to start the green 2002 Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle, which belongs to a relative, despite being told not to do so, family members said.”

JMO - If I was staying in Lumberton, I would not start a vehicle and leave it unattended.

So they say she was told not to start up the car, but she did anyway. I guess the keys were somewhere she knew about and just did it. But she doesn't stay in the car with the warmth. She is outside the car, in the cold. See that makes no sense to me. She doesn't live there, right? She was just there for a day or so, if I recall what i read. I wouldn't be comfortable taking someone's keys to start up a car, and being told not too, I would be less inclined to do so. But she is a kid. So if I am going to start it up, I would most likely sit in it to get warm. But that is just me.

Can we have a discussion/conversation privately or is it against the terms of service ?

Possible that Hania was sitting inside the SUV and the story has been changed to “standing outside the SUV” to protect the Aunt from the possibility of trouble in allowing an underage child to start her car that was sitting along a main road.
(Police say the kidnapping occurred between lots 38 and 39 in the Rosewood Mobile Home Park.)
Between Lots 38 and 39 could make the SUV sitting beside the main road.

The sister also stated that “the Aunt told her not to start the car” would be clearing the Aunt from possible trouble along by saying Hania was standing outside the car.

Heylin Perez, Hania's sister, said the abducted girl wanted to go outside and start the family's SUV but her aunt told the teen not to start the vehicle. But the girl did anyway.

Ah I see
Didn’t realise that it would get her aunt in trouble with LE for doing that
Thanks for explaining it
My 11 yr old son often starts my car to warm it up and de ice the windows ( and secretly because he can rev the engine and it makes him feel like a big boy and important bless him )
But I live in a seaside resort in the U.K. in a little one road in / out cul de sac with a gated driveway where he does it !

Which could make it a Crime Of Opportunity.
A crime of opportunity would also make it more of a possibility that Hania could be being held locally (a not preplanned location)

It wasn't cold. Lumberton had a high of 68 and a low of 61 degrees that day.
