The more I think about it, I’m thinking possibly younger-ish perp known to Hania?

Did she have older friends, HS friends?
Not saying it’s her friends of course. Just asking if she ran with an older group, or was she more child-like 13 year old? Me personally, I was the type that ran with a much older group.

Everything is pure brainstorming and JMo and speculation.

Maybe just the thrill of being only 13 and being able to get behind the wheel of a car and actually start it up. Only a thought.

A good thought.

I believe he had been watching Hania even before he kidnapped her.

I believe he is from the same general area.

He was on foot because he knew the vehicle was running. No need to take his vehicle.

Imo

It's certainly possible and I'm hoping this is the case because if so it could lead to the solving of this case. If warming up the vehicle was Hania's normal routine, this does seem quite likely.

What gets me is that he was able to disappear so completely. Hania was heard screaming, so authorities were contacted immediately, yet the guy gets away. I sure hope they are doing a search of every garage within a certain number of miles of wherever that photo was taken.

From looking at the photo of the car they do have it looks to be in the center lane and there is at least another lane of traffic. So IMO it appears someone in another vehicle took the photo of her.

I hate to think this but I think maybe someone driving along saw her trying to get help from them so they snapped a photo of their vehicle. I dont see how else this photo would have been taken from that position.
See the white lines at bottom showing the other lane.

FB releases photo of SUV connected to kidnapped Lumberton teen

Due to the odd angle and blurriness I think this is probably a blow-up taken from a surveillance video from some home or business along the way.

I'm thinking the opposite (but still on the fence).

I think it was a carjacking with the abduction being a random crime of opportunity.

Just a couple of days ago in my neighborhood park, a woman was mugged. After the perp took her belongings, he then sexually assaulted her. It seems like he did the assault as an afterthought - just because he could - but the real objective was to rob. In other words, he would've robbed anyone who came by and not assaulted them, but took the opportunity to assault this particular victim at the spur of the moment because he could in that particular location/time, etc.

That's what I think happened in this case - the perp was on the hunt for a car. Hania just happened to be an easy victim "for the taking" so he took her.

I hate this scenario because it probably means it will be harder to find the perp.

I really want to know how the perp happened to be in that trailer court without a vehicle he could use to leave it. Why was he there?? If we know that, we can find him, imo.

jmo

Can you please post this in the Closs thread as well?

Seriously we are tossing around some interesting common questions here with Jayme’s case as far as random, targeted etc and most importantly analyzing an interesting/unusual method by which this was conducted (in this case, forcing her into a vehicle, and not the perps vehicle at that).

What I’m saying is I think some members over in that thread could lend some thoughts here as well, considering there have been some similar thoughts and questions.

Hope this makes sense. So I’m going to post a note over there and I hope the mods won’t mind considering this is also an active amber alert of a 13 year old with some unique circumstances.
ETA: never mind on posting over there, didn’t feel right to pull people away from Jayme :( )

Here’s something else @Inthedetails, you and I have always had some great discussions over the years, and I feel that we usually have seen eye to eye, down to that time we were both like from the beginning “DN isn’t BG”—-My point? I find it interesting you see just the opposite. And I love this becasue to me that is which inspires constructive conversations and I so value everyone’s different thoughts!

That is possible too. I had not considered if they cropped it out of a normal driveway video. Its so scary to know she is likely in that vehicle.

So we can get back on topic of where to look next, as for this topic of turning on the car, unlocking the car, waiting outside is kinda mute. If they handed her keys to unlock the hatch to put her school bag inside, same scenario would have happened. There is alot of things I don't let my kids do because of all the things I see on this forum. However, the blame lies with the perpetrator and our focus is on how to help generate leads and tips. Not point blame on trivial things unless LE says something. Then, open season. I understand the frustration, but this is 20/20 hindsight and a lesson to all who have young teens. But that's another issue for another forum at another time. Hope no offense is taken, I just think we need to focus on gas stations/ camera they could have passed and clues to bring her home....

I think your post is awesome!

Slightly OT but a good community service note.

I fairly recently installed those new fangled security cameras for the home and they are amazing and rather inexpensive these days.

I installed 7 cameras and it was really easy to install and I love them.

They automatically send a video to my Smart Phone and are motion activated. So even if a perp smashes the main hub unit its too late because my camera has the video on it. They have night vision too and work at night.
When storage space exceeds they purge off the oldest videos so even that is automatic. Mine keep about 2 weeks of video depending on how many times I walk in my doors or someone else. LOL

There are different brands and most of them all do the same basic thing. I got mine on QVC. Mine are wireless and each camera has its own AA batteries. Depending on usage you just have to swap batteries.
The HUB sits near the router in the home.

I love these things and if people can afford it I totally recommend them. An easy install. If I can do it then anyone can. :)

( @MassGuy and everyone else. Get your arses in here, we need more folks in this thread!

I want to hear your thoughts MG on all this—this window of opportunity is bugging me. And not using his own vehicle...)

Where did he come from!?

I was wondering about this yesterday:

IF the family knew the abductor, is there a chance that despite the bandana, they would still recognize him by his eyes? What I mean is, I feel like if I went anywhere with a bandana over my face, those who knew me well enough would be able to tell it’s me by my figure (short and plump haha), my eyes, and perhaps gait and voice. (They’d be like “giirrrl, whatchoo doin with that silly bandana on your face?”)

Thoughts?

It was said during the presser that the perp's race is unknown, so I doubt they got close enough to see the eyes.

There’s also a weigh station on I-95 near Lumberton. I believe the stations take video/ photos of trucks, in case they don’t pay. They’d need side vehicle photos for ID.
Photo of SUV could have come from weigh station.

So you’re getting a nonrandom vibe then too?

What are you guys thinking/feeling in attacker’s possible age based on the “style” of this abduction, anything? Hard to tell but what could we say the average age of a carjacker is?

This bandana thing seems younger to me but again could be wrong. Who’s to say an older abductor wouldn’t wear a bandana..

The 911 call to report Hania’s abduction was made by a neighbor after a relative ran over to get help. The call came in to the Robeson County Communications Center at 6:54 in the morning on November 5, 2018. A female caller speaking Spanish was on the line, the Robeson County dispatcher quickly requested a Spanish translator to join the call. Initial reports during the 911 call described the abductor as a black male. During follow-up interviews, investigators determined the witness had not seen the race of the abductor because he was wearing all black, including long sleeves, and a yellow bandana over his face and it was still dark outside. The Lumberton Police Department received the call at 6:58 a.m. and immediately responded to the scene.

Hania's Mother asked the following statement be shared on her behalf to the community and to her daughter.

"I just want my daughter back with me. I am here waiting for you, I love you, and I only care about you and I don’t have anything against whoever did this to you. I just want you back."

If you see the stolen vehicle Hania was taken in, call 911. The Lumberton Police Department has set up a special tip line to call with information to find Hania. The tip line number is 910-272-5871.

The Amber Alert IS still active.

True and actually the first school day and normal work day after DST. So the first day of a dark morning.... hmmm.... goes to opportunity maybe.

Scary thought:

Could we be seeing a newer breed of child abductors who are more violent and brazen? It would make sense considering our increase in mass shootings, etc...

It seems more of these newer cases here are sharing lines with other crimes within the same incident (murder, carjacking, violent home invasions...).

Catching up again. I know it's a long-shot that the Boone incident is related to HNA's abduction. I was nervous mentioning it at first because I tend to think outside the box in these cases. Sometimes I'm right, mostly I'm not.

*If* the perp ended up in Boone, I think it would be because he was just driving with no real plan until he ran out of gas. That would be about a half a tank, depending on lots of factors. The FBI will know by now how much gas was in the SUV. I don't think it would be crazy for someone to backtrack to Hickory after dumping the Ford. It's a straight shot down the mountain. *I feel like the perp is local to Lumberton, and is going to need to get back home before people realize he's missing.*

One thing, though, if it were the same guy in Hickory, I would expect him to just shoplift some food or clothes instead of commit an armed robbery for money. What would he need to buy if he were on the run?

Unfortunately, there are barns and fields and hidden country roads everywhere up in those hills where the Ford and HNA could be hidden. If LE thinks there may be ANY connection to the Boone carjacking, they should ask people to check their property. If they can't make that leap, maybe they should ask people to check their property for the SUV stolen in Boone (and perhaps find the other one.)

It also struck me immediately that both vehicles were SUV's. Wonder what kind of vehicle the stick-shift that he tried to steal first was? I'm not going to lie, it made me snicker that he couldn't drive the stick.

If he were “on the run,” he would need to buy gas.
