I personally don't think so. Those are rare and he was prepared....laying in wait imo. Plus he stole her aunts (?) SUV. I think this will turn out to be someone known to the family or at least known to her. imo
Stranger abductions are rare, but if his primary objective was the vehicle, that wouldn't be. But, then why take Hania, right? Hmmm.

Has anyone considered a 2nd perp? Did someone drop him off and/or how did he get there?

Wait. Was the stolen vehicle the auto she went out and started?
Sorry, I thought the stolen vehicle was from another residence.

Thank you, I've added it to my Word file, but it's too late to edit my post. I'll wait and see if there are more additions/changes and then post again.

So, what do we have here? Stranger abduction, opportunistic?
MOO

It seems like a stranger abduction to me, but hard to say for sure.
I'm not ruling anything out yet (and neither are LE).
Hania reminds me of another case of a NC girl who was grabbed from her front yard by a man on a scooter. That little girl was later found alive and tied to a tree. Her name was redacted due to the nature of the attack (and her thread might be gone now). The man they arrested was a registered sex offender and he did not know her. He grabbed her at random/opportunistically.
So in my observation, it does happen.
It is terrifying to think that is the type of person that may have Hania.
I so wish I thought this was a custody dispute or something but that doesn't really fit with the other facts we know so far. :(
MOO.

Yes. She went outside, started the car and then was standing in the yard waiting for her aunt to drive her to school. The man came along and forced her into the running vehicle and took off. Her family heard her screaming and a neighbor witnessed it as well.

I thought it was the vehicle she started since it was reported it belonged to one of her relatives. Did I get that wrong?

Thanks. I misinterpreted something along the way of reading.

Dis Hania usually go out in the morning and start the car? Why?

I'm thinking he lived nearby. After taking Hania to another location, he would probably abandon the vehicle and call a friend, saying his car broke down. I wonder if LE has studied surveillance images from as far back as 1 hr before the abduction to determine where he arrived from and how he arrived. He must have sneaked in quietly since HP said he came out of nowhere. MOO

No, you are correct Pommy. It was the car she started that was stolen.
The question seems to be, why take Hania too? Why would he be in the area with his face covered already? Was he planning to take Hania? Or had he committed another crime and was looking for a car to steal? Could she have been taken as a hostage in case he encountered the police on his way out of the neighborhood? Either way, it doesn't look good. Days have passed and no new signs of them or the car. :(

Yes, it's sort of like why take Jayme all over again. I haven't done more than glance at the map, so maybe I'll start there in the morning. Maybe he came out from behind a tree or a shed or something, and that's where he covered his face. It makes more sense that he planned to take her, but you're right - it's not looking good either way. :(

IMO, Hania was the target. If he just wanted the car, he could have waited until Hania was in the house and then jumped in the car and gotten a quick get-away.

If Hania was his target, he probably took her in her aunt's car because it was a convenient means of getting away quickly since Hania was already in/near the car.

Or he had lived there in the past and worked nearby? Lots of possibilities. If he dressed in black and covered his face with a bandanna, I wonder if he also wore gloves. I hope they've got lots of camera footage. MOO

There seem to be conflicting reports in this thread on that. I can't find anything clearly saying she usually did. Some locals have weighed in saying that (it could be opinion). Some news sources have quoted her 8 year old sister as saying Hania was told not to start the car that morning but took the keys and started it anyway. However, I have not found that entire video interview yet with the sister. I would like to find the raw interview to see how the sister worded it. Since she is only 8 we might want to take what she says (or was interpreted as saying), with a grain of salt. I wonder if the sister was referring to herself (the 8 year old being told she couldn't start the car makes more sense to me) or perhaps after Hania's abduction, her aunt may have said the little sister could not start another car. The interview with the 8 year old was done while she was sitting in another car, possibly before she left for school. I can see where an 8 year old may be confused by the traumatic event and get details wrong (most eye witness adults get something wrong). JMO.

I agree; this seems most likely.

The sister is 8 years old (name changed to initials by me):

Amber Alert issued for abducted Lumberton girl, 13

I wonder why the aunt would be the one to give permission for an interview and not her mother?

I'm guessing the mother is a complete wreck and perhaps medicated. I would be as well, though my younger daughter wouldn't be leaving my side. It is probably better for her daughter to not be witnessing the breakdown her mother is having. I just wouldn't be strong enough to allow my other child to leave.

I wonder if LE has interviewed managers at nearby businesses to see if any employees missed work that morning. If the perp lived in the area, maybe he worked a later shift or had the day off. Or, he may be unemployed.

UPDATE: Authorities knocking on doors for kidnapped Lumberton girl

AMBER ALERT | A 13-year-old girl taken from home in North Carolina
Dumb question: How did he start the car? Were the keys in it, was it running, did he hotwire it?

ETA: I see others asked and answered my question while I was writing my post. I'm sooo slow! Thanks!

Way behind and reading from the beginning again to make sure I didn’t miss anything, hoping there have been some developments today, looking forward to catching up.

There are some photos at the first link which shows some of the area (police guarding entrance to Rosewood (what are those tall things by the utility pole things, it’s all blurry..I can't see squat but thought I’d mention it anyway.)

Also there is a good photo which shows the roads (where the police are standing).

Why is there more than one mobile home there with boarded up windows? Were they boarded before this incident? Is this a high crime area? Or just a very impoverished area?

Looks like a North Carolina Provisional ID card

Also, I found her lot in Google maps and it is kinda deep in the trailer park as well. If you drive in you pass 2 cul-de-sacs and hers is the one on the right at the end. Odd place to randomly abduct someone

This map/360 street view is very helpful, thank you. Shin Masamura.
