I'm just curious if anyone here knows much about making reports to NAMUS. I emailed with someone from the doenetwork a few years ago about a suggested match, and the comparison has never shown up on her NAMUS page.

Not all comparisons show on Namus. Unless it has changed, the DoeNetwork will only forward a potential match to law enforcement if it passes their Potential Match Panel process (www.doenetwork.org). You might consider outreach directly to the Namus coordinators for both the missing and unidentified person (say in an email, for example) and also to the law enforcement agencies on each case. Perhaps a single email would cover it all. There is regularly turnover at LE agencies on case assignments and not too long ago the email domain changed for Namus. I was told by someone I regularly correspond with there that they were not able to retrieve any of the emails sent to the prior email domain (I can't confirm this, but it is what I was told). You may or may not hear anything back. Don't know if this is helpful or not, but wanted to respond.

@Caring1 Hey could you post the current list of NamUs exclusions for this Jane Doe? I would greatly appreciate it.

Still looking on this one. I wonder if we're limiting ourselves too much by assuming this decedent's white? How would the sheriff's office come to that conclusion if she was skeletal when found?

My understanding is the bones, especially skulls, some populations may tend to have traits not as commonly found in others, so these help them estimate ancestry. If DNA is available, and the resources are there, someone may have also checked against reference populations/calcs too--like we could in Gedmatch, for example to get a better understanding of the background.

You make a valid point they could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time!

UPDATE: OCSO has put out an updated reconstruction of this Doe using facial reconstruction technology. Any way we can add this to the main post?

This new recon looks like Beatrice Coleman (26) missing from Memphis 7 months earlier. Consideration taken that hair and eye color was unknown when UID was found.

Hoping this new reconstruction will generate more suggestions and lead to her identity. Thank you for posting.

I'm assuming that since its a Parabon Snapshot, the eye/hair/skin color and amount of freckles are based on DNA phenotyping. So those features are most likely to be accurate while actual facial structure and physical features are entirely guesswork because they don't take the skull measurements into account (but this one looks reasonably close to the clay recon, especially the nose).

The phenotyping data is all averages though, so somebody who would most likely have green eyes actually having blue ones in life (like your MP comparison) isn't impossible. I haven't been able to find her report anywhere to see how confident they are for each datapoint.

''According to the sheriff’s office, forensic evidence indicates the woman was white, between 20 and 30 years old, 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-2 in height, and had a slight build. She was wearing a heavy crew-neck sweater, dark gray or brown in color; blue slacks with an elastic character underneath; pantyhose or a leotard; and white slip-on shoes with small white bows. Some clothing labels recovered included “Necessary Objects Limited” and “1045 Paris.”

Detectives also said the woman had a spinal fusion at the C2/3 region and signs of degenerative bone disease in her neck.

Anyone with information that could help identify the woman is asked to contact Captain David Evans at 910.989.4010 or [email protected], or contact Crime Stoppers at 910.938.3273.''

Oh wow. The resemblance is uncanny. Definitely worth submitting as a potential match, I think

And in her case, the mandible was not recovered, so even the skeletal reconstruction is a guess on the lower jaw/chin.
