I don't know how old he was when they were married but in 1974 he would have been approximately 18yo.

Ila Veronica Tucker Maynard is not listed as a possible relative or possible associate of his. I don't know how missing spouses were handled in 1974, but was she declared dead and the marriage dissolved? According to True People Search Julian Maynard does not appear to be married based on available public records.

It doesn't appear that he ever moved from the location where he lived when Veronica went missing. Perhaps her remains are on or around that property?
