Watch a therapist’s video, who made some points about why people may not respond to violence.
I think processing freeze and flight or fight syndrome are the best explanations. In the end, many people imagine themselves as acting quickly and heroically, but few people actually do.

Another factor in most people not reacting, maybe lack of experience with violence.

Ironically, one civilian population that I have personally seen to have the ability "read" people's demeanor, body language and hand movements- then react rapidly to violence using full defensive violent force are, well...... prisoners.

Long exposure / experience with violence combined with living in environments where survival can depend on having threat radars always up and running, combined with likely Uhhmm...... "personal experience" in using violence can lead to very rapid reactions.

In the end, I suspect that one of the very few groups of people capable of processing what they were seeing, then intervening with decisive force and saving that poor victim would have been former prison inmates.

Canada now has a 100% race based legal system, to the point where there have now been multiple cases where black and indigenous offenders have been given more lenient sentences due solely to their race (including for offences such as assaulting a child and murder), and we are on our way to having the same thing in the United States. White people are not allowed to be considered victims, and when they are brutally killed by a minority, the most urgent priority for politicians is to downplay the race of the offender. We all know that if roles were reversed, there would have, at the very minimum, been some looting and vandalization, and that mural damn well would have gone up, and stayed up, in record time.

The other purpose of taking this mural down is, of course, to demoralize the population. A young woman is killed by a habitual offender, but guess what, plebs? You aren't allowed to memorialize her, and you certainly aren't allowed to talk about the problem of a legal system that now puts criminals above everybody else. You and your children will be assaulted, carjacked, and murdered, but don't bother protesting, because it'll just be ignored. You'll pay the bills but don't expect any sort of representation or justice from the politicians and legal system who hate you.

NOW Politicians are worried about being ‘divisive’ ?
IMO these criticisms are one sided and self serving.
The portraits have no endorsements etc, just her image. To say her image is "divisive" says a lot more about those objecting, than about those painting the image.

It’s the same reason why people in the military are more inclined to react. imo

It's never been more obvious to me that on multiple levels, there seem to be actual lunatics in charge.

I am a bit confused by what you mean. Can you explain this to me?

I saw this story the other day and was stunned. Now the club that had the mural is apologizing for allowing it. What is wrong with people? Does this young lady not deserve to have her story told?

Are there other "memorial murals" in the city?
Or have there been "memorial murals" that the city has ordered to be removed?
What will happen the next time someone creates a "memorial mural", perhaps for somebody more controversal? Can the city order that mural to be removed, when having allowed this one to stay?
Allowing one mural, but order others to be removed - well, that can lead to a lot of problems, and controversies in the future.

This mural was on private property. Paid for privately. They city intervened and said "absolutely not!!" What happend to "no kings?"
Cities around the nation allowed murals of others with full support of the city governments. Why is THIS one objected to?

It's all politics. Literally, that's all it is. Apparently if you don't have murals for everyone ever murdered, you can't have one for a white lady. People complained so the mayor caved.

Because paying tribute to an innocent, murdered white lady is divisive. This is where we are in society. It's insane.

"Randy and Buck, the club owners, wrote in a statement on Facebook: "The mural on our building was created for one reason: remembrance. It honors Iryna—a life taken too soon, as so many others have. It was never intended to be political. The narrative being created about this is wrong, and it is deeply disappointing and concerning to see a memorial misunderstood, judged, and turned into something divisive.""

And yet they now have had to "apologize for the mural and have it removed.
NO KINGS!!!!

When you have people in society getting bent out of shape over a mural of an innocent, law abiding murder victim stabbed to death, that's a really terrible commentary on the society.

Wow. What violent cases in the USA have the perps been given lienent sentences because they are black?
There have been more people sentences to death for killing white people than black people.

The problem is lack of effective sentences. Repeat offenders need to be incarcerated for long periods of times. Folks who are arrested repeatedly for crimes need to be locked up until their trials.

People suffering from mental illness who don't take their medication or whose treatment isn't working need to be hospitalized until their better.

I know it's all wishful thinking and there are many solutions but not enough money and resources to male it happen.

If we had more love and respect in this world, we wouldn't have issues like this.

I think the mural was a wonderful and thoughtful tribute. The owners should not have had to take it down nor apologize. It's not decisive. It is a reminder for us all to see each other and care for each other.

Lol. Obviously more people have been sentenced to death for killing white people than killing black people, when the population percentage breakdown for white/black citizens is 63.4%/15.2%. There are orders of magnitude more white citizens than black citizens, thus, more white people will be murdered than black people, thus, more people receiving the death penalty for those crimes.

By the way, the city of Charlotte had no problem with commissioning people to paint a gigantic BLM mural on publicly owned property after the death of George Floyd.

I LITERALLY put into my post about Canada's race based legal system. It's because of something called the Gladue Report, and it it POLICY in Canada for minorities to receive lighter sentences, this isn't something I pulled out of my butt. Here is some light reading for you about a violent sexual predator who was handled with kid gloves because his race gave him the sads: Judge reduces sex criminal's jail time because of his race. This is just one example.

Here in the United States, blue states have taken to adopting soft on crime policies due to their contempt for law abiding citizens but also because it would not do to have a greater proportion of black citizens than white citizens locked up. I know you may not like to hear this but there is an issue in the black community with higher crime rates than there are in other groups.

By the way: if you want to respond and imply that I'm racist, you may want to think again as I am biracial (black mother, white father), and honor both parts of my heritage. I just choose not to remain blind to what's going on.

If you are offended by this, I do not care.
