David Freedman, an attorney representing Mr Martens in the case, stated for the record the photograph at which the juror observed at the time of her reaction was the single exhibit to which the defence made objection earlier in the day.
In answer to questions from Mr Freedman, Dr Nelson indicated he did not know when Mr Corbett would have become incapacitate, which blow would have rendered him incapacitated or the sequence in which the blows came.

Mr Holton asked Dr Nelson if he personally oversaw the preservation of Mr Corbett’s fingernail clippings. Dr Nelson said he does not typically bag nail clippings unless asked to do so. He did confirm there was blood under Mr Corbett’s fingernails.

The District Attorney also said that while Mr Corbett was discovered in the bedroom naked and blood-spattered with a crushed skull there wasn't a mark on either his wife or his father-in-law when police and paramedics arrived."Thomas Martens - (had) no injuries, no bruises, no swelling, no cuts and no blood appeared to come from him," he said.
"Molly Martens Corbett - (had) no bruises, no swelling, no cuts and no blood appeared to come from her."At least one blow was sustained when Mr Corbett was already dead.
Multiple blows had been sustained to two specific areas of the back of his head.
"His skull was badly crushed," he said.

Of course they did, the one that made a juror physically sick. I do not want to hazard a guess at how bad it was. Finding it hard to follow the evidence today, heart breaking. Such a wasteful death and the poor children still asleep, having to be woken and told that their world, as they know it, has ended.

Just in reference to the photo accompanying the independent article...is that SM carrying the cushion? If so, she doesn't look in good health. Just a random observation!

It doesn't matter. There are layers of skull fractures. Layers...

Any one of them would have rendered him unconscious. So, jury, take your pick.

I wonder is this a sign that each of them is going to blame the other for the 'fatal' blow and hope that if the jury cannot equate the final blow to either of them they will find it harder to find them both guilty...JMO

In hindsight imo maybe separate trials would have been better. It's a lot for jurors to take in, seperate and process

I thought the same...then I wondered if there was something more to it, ie Molly's change in attire, SM should look older/frailer so the jurors wouldn't focus so much on why she didn't leave the basement...but maybe I'm just being harsh given what we've read today.

I'm enraged at the fact that a woman sat down the stairs from these two babies and never ran to them, during or after their dad's vicious beating its cold yhere are no excuses. The same woman sits in court today doing a crossword it's beyond reason in my brain I can't even consider. This speaks volumes is right.

I don't think so, the Martens dynamic is weird. I mean we've blasted Molly for not going to the kids, but in reality her mother abandoned her too, just sat in the basement that whole time...it reminded me of what MAry said about Keith McGinn's book, when Molly was at her lowest point, where was her mother?

No, am more thinking which blow rendered him unconscious,, which blow killed him,

I think the sequence can actually be determined but requires specialist examination , microscopic, pathological of bone edges.. but that its not immediately apparent upon autopsy. Thats what I'm hoping and thats what I understood from earlier discussions and referencing peer reviewed forensic pathology studies..

It can also be determined from blood tracking.. whether they dragged or moved his body around.. condition of blood in hallway, bathroom compared to blood in bedroom

blood coagulates in stages, so the freshest blood can be determined and distinguished from the older/earlier blood spillage.
I read all today's posts fast, reading twitter fast now.. if I can make any sense of anything I read apart from theorising, I will, just need another gallon of espresso first..

I also feel weird talking about blood and bone edges as though they they were specimens in a laboratory rather than belonging to a vibrant living loving gentle human being.

Are you seeing the contradiction here though. In opening statements for defence it was said tm hit JC until he released mm and then dialled 911. If he was still holding her to his death how was he facing tm with a bat and her behind JC. There was a headlock, a chocking it's not adding up for me its messy imo

I dont believe a single word of the narrative they portray. Not a single word.
I dont think its even worthy of discussion . Its utterly flawed.
The police testimonies earlier were the truth.
Children were fat asleep, glad to read the police carried them with such gentleness and compassion but mystified they were handed to mrs crossword in the basement..

Absolutely, I was going to say it sounds like a macabre dance around the room, but was afraid of being disrespectful to Jason. First allegation he had her by throat with one hand, then he put her in a choke hold and dragged her to the bathroom, then she ended up free behind him while he managed to get the bat off TM, then TM managed to get the bat back and starts hitting away again. It is utterly ridiculous. Its all synchronised by the defence to try and account for the blood splatter in the different areas of the house and to try and account for the various injuries front and back to poor Jason. The bedroom would have been a wreck with furniture in disarray, lamps knocked over etc. The first thing noticed was that the room didn't look like a Donnybrook situation etc.

Corporal Dagenhardt was the first police officer to enter the master bedroom of the home after the alarm was raised.As he walked into the property at Panther Creek, a paramedic told him: "It is bad in there - real bad. It is a horrible scene."

Corporal Dagenhardt photographed with his mobile phone the scene where Mr Corbett's naked and blood-stained body was lying on the floor.

After paramedics removed the body, he went upstairs with another policeman to determine who else was in the property.

e went into Sarah's bedroom."She was asleep - she had not been disturbed in any way," he said.
His colleague awoke the little girl's brother, Jack.

"She was startled when I woke her."
"I said I wanted her to close her eyes (when he brought her downstairs)."

The little girl, startled from being awoken, agreed with the policeman's suggestion that he carry her downstairs.
"I told her to turn her face into my neck and I told her to close her eyes."

"I then walked backwards so she didn't open her eyes and she wouldn't be exposed to anything."

A blood trail had been left from their father's body.

With his colleague, he then brought the two children downstairs where he found mother-of-four Sharon Martens, Thomas Martens wife, standing by a downstairs bedroom door."(She was) calm," he said.
"I advised her we had an active investigation and we had to leave the children in her care," he added.

Im very glad that somebody was responsible enough to think of those poor children . My heart is broken in two for them .:-(
