I would be curious about this as well. Maybe the prosecution have investigated this as part of their financial motive. They have proved Tom had malice . I thought maybe its a loan from the bank for said much and the deeds given to the bank . Does anybody know ?
Perhaps a loan to renovate?

Joshua Bradner is who was in charge of this short sale . Im still not understanding on how this came about and why

Short SaleShort sales are usually initiated by the homeowner, often when the value of a home drops by 20% or more. Before the process can begin, the lender that holds the mortgage must sign off on the decision to execute a short sale. Additionally, the lender, typically a bank, needs documentation that explains why a short sale makes sense; after all, the lending institution could lose a lot of money in the process.
If approved for short sale, the buyer negotiates with the homeowner first and then seeks approval on the purchase from the bank second. It is important to note that no short sale may occur without lender approval.
Short sales tend to be lengthy and paperwork-intensive transactions, sometimes taking up to a full year to process. However, short sales are not as detrimental to a homeowner's credit rating as a foreclosure is. A short sale looks better to future lenders and creditors: It shows you took action before the bank had to repossess your home. A homeowner who has gone through a short sale may even, with certain restrictions, be eligible to purchase another home immediately.

Could be. But I've never seen a loan listed on a site like this as a "real estate transaction." It's also between you and a bank. Requires no realtor and would be none of his business. And I believe would be confidential.

This says it was "sold." I wonder if we can see who was listed as the buyer?

Short sales were popular during the worst of our real estate recession. Some people owed the bank more than the house could be sold for...hence they were "underwater" with their mortgage. They could not pay the bank what they owed even if the house sold.

Looks like the Martens bought this house from the bank on a short sale in 2012. Looks like a rental property.

But what happened in 2014?

When the house was sold in 2017, they would have to pay a realtor around 7% of the selling price. Subtract that from the selling price.

I wonder if Jason helped them with the purchase. Now with his plans to move, and his employers company being sold, did he ask for his loan back?

A hurricane hit the Outer Banks where TM's home was located during the key rental time of 4th of July weekend. These investments depend on a strong rental summer season to cover the mortgage and taxes. No one rents on the Outer Banks in the cold months.

That could have hurt them financially.

the only explanation is that they cleaned up before the authorities arrived, but what happened to their clothes ? did someone come and take them away??? I get more blood on my clothes when I shave than both of these people got on theirs after a sustained and brutal slaughter.

I believe this is where SM comes into the story. I think she was responsible for clean up and disposal of evidence. This was a brutal beating so they really should have both been covered in blood. Also if they fought and there was a struggle, why no injuries to TM or MM? I'm sticking with the theory that JC was attacked either in bed not long after falling asleep. Btw, ex hubby was violent so I know the damage that can be done personally. He had me by the neck at least two times and not only did I have visible injuries, but the rooms we were in at the time looked upset. By that I mean, furniture was broken or knicked, pictures fell off the walls, little trinkets fell and smashed. The Cs master didn't fit the bill imo.

Then a short sale would make sense. I think you may be onto something with JC wanting his loan repaid before ending the marriage and returning to Ireland. I also think TM and SM did not want MM back on their hands.

Oh YES.
On it.
you're welcome to join me.
Dispatch sent a sports journalist to cover it, live tweeting, he has managed to omit most significant information.

The comment that it possibly started in bed was mentioned fairly quickly and I wasn't sure at the time if I heard him correctly. Apparently I did from the reports I have seen since.

Great sleuthing Stephan & Co...we discussed this before and dismissed it as the Martens simply releasing equity. It does add a different dimension if the Martens were struggling financially/in negative equity etc. The were both barrelling towards retirement age, it is possible that they were stretched financially and could see no way out. Another mouth to feed could push them over the edge perhaps?

Last time i checked, Charleston SC isnt part of the Outer Banks of NC. This real estate transaction while it could huricane related, most likely relates to income tax issues, Sched E Form 1040. IMO

I hope a realtor stops by and can explain that transaction. We need both a lawyer and a realtor on this thread.

It's wonderful though to be in the company of so many compassionate people discussing this case.

While its not murder Mr FBI signed a form saying the house wouldn't be rented .Page 17 I would say this is a legally binding document . However they go on to rent the house .

Could TM have come prepared with those jumpsuits that workers and crime scene investigators wear sometimes? Being in LE at one time, he would be familiar with those. He would be aware that showers drains are often checked for blood to see if someone showered...After the deed was done, SM disposed of them.(Wasn't there report that someone was seen leaving that night?) But then they realized that they needed some blood on clothes or story wouldn't jive, so they hit him a few more times :notgood: just to get some blood on them....
