The defense said the officer may have given misleading info to the insurance person

Defense said they didn't have the proper time to subpoena the insurance officer or talk to her

Defense said they tried to contact the insurance person (who lives in Maine) but she refused to speak on the issue

Basically, defense is saying they received this info too late, state said they weren't going to touch on these issues anyway

why were state not going to touch on insurance issues?

The judge rules to allow the evidence involved with the documents in question, so it's a moot issue

They may still reference insurance issues, they just may not use information garnered by Det Thompson.

I wonder if they had suspected that MM had taken out an insurance policy on JC. Perhaps they investigated as such, found it didn't pan out and therefore they wouldn't pursue it in court, but they would still need to provide documents as to the investigation to the defense.

Judge essentially says the info in the documents was too weak and distant to affect the outcome of the case

Thanks Stephan I do recall what the search warrant said; I do not believe that there was any 'new' bat brought to the property. I am rather going by the defence assertion that there was indeed a new bat for JC (but no gift for SC) brought that evening and how this can be proven. Newly purchased is easy, you have a receipt. But ME as family spokesperson has stated it was a bat from the house in Tenneessee so not as easy to prove. If we had any proof - either way - of whether a second bat was found at the property this would be very conclusive to me.

All IMO

All IMO

Hi Emma,

No luck with the link so far, I'll keep looking and send it on when I find it...its the problem with reading so many sources trying to get a clear picture of what's going on!

I read all todays' posts. I need clarification on 'defence needing time'.. Is this saying they need longer than the weekend before returning?
-Is it an attempt to delay Corbetts returning home or putting additional pressure on corbetts who have not yet testified?
- regarding warrants' results being brought forward.. I am unsure what this means? If tomorrow is last day of prosecution testimony, would they not essentially need to be entered into evidence then, if at all??

There seems to be a lot of delaying tactics employed by defence.. is this vexatious, or is that term even used in US trials.. spurious objections made in an effort to almost troll the proceedings, knowing that there are children in Ireland anxiously awaiting their parents' return?

Wanda Thompson on the stand, officer who took statement from Molly Corbett the night of the incident

This should be interesting.

Thompson said she talked to Molly Corbett for about an hour about the incident, and then asked her to write a statement

The main thing Wanda Thompson brought was Molly Corbett's statement. That wasn't read out loud, but the jury read it

Defense just basically asked if Molly Corbett agreed to do everything she asked and Thompson said yes

As promised, Tracey Lynch is now on the stand

Prayers to Tracy

I'm curious about some details in the Zillow link. It appears the house was "sold" in 2014 for about 10% of the price the Martens paid. Then almost immediately it was sold back to the Martens at the 700,000 plus price again. Does anyone have any idea what these transactions might be about? Who was the buyer in 2014?

Had a looked at that link can’t really explain it either that of 03/11/2014 $73,250 transaction. Not knowing SC property law it may well be a payment for a lease on the property. Usually where there is such a down payment there should be also a repayment by the lessor to the leasee and such recorded unless the lease was terminated for non-performance of its terms. Can’t find “it was sold back to the Martens at the 700,000 plus price again”.

What we can say for certain the lessors sold the property 31th Dec 2012 and received from TM SM $742,000

T M and SM sold 914 West Ashley Ave. on May 2, 2017 to Heidi Yvonne and James G. Nejaime for $760,000.

Defense strategy is to attack everyone's credibility but their clients' credibility. Average Joe will see through it.
Language used is appalling. definite statement, word 'allegedly' omitted

Hopefully, not my language?

no, no, language in ws journal piece.. first sentence..
LEXINGTON — A lead detective falsely told an insurance agent that Molly Corbett refused to cooperate and answer questions about the death of her husband, Irish businessman Jason Corbett, an attorney for Molly Corbett alleged in court.

I genuinely think if anybody has an ounce of sense in their brain they will know this is a biased paper . Mr Hewitt acknowledged that the dates in the memorandum regarding Mr Fitzpatrick alleged statement were different to the ones filed in the motion but he didn't report on that . He only added in the word alleged after he was contacted .
