I thought we had articles posted on his case - basic gist of 26 Jan 84 article out of Winston Salem Journal (pg 17) is the LE notion that his and 5 other disappearances out of Wilkes County are drug related.

Specific to Mr. Myers, the articles indicates he was last seen after visiting a nightclub south of Wilkesboro. The car which he was driving - which investigators said contained 200 lbs of marijuana - was found empty 3 days later at a rest area on I-77 in northern Iredell County.

There are so many rumors about that bar I'm inclined to believe something hinky was going on there back in the early 80's.
That rest stop was closed and replaced a couple years sgo. It seems like whoever took the car must have continued south on 115, probably turned onto NC 901, and took it to 77 where they would have went southbound to end up at the rest stop.
