I was once employed at a church school (not connected to the church I attended). A young teenage worker told workers she'd been raped by a church deacon, who had a "reputation" around our small town. I reported the allegation to the youth pastor, who turned it over to the head pastor. He raked me over the coals for not waiting to report the incident directly to him--this was a Friday and he said I should've "left him a Post-It note" on his office door about it, and he would've taken care of it on Mon. As if it were a light bulb that needed replacing!! I was LIVID! The deacon was never dismissed and the young lady continued to work at the church school. This incident and others caused me to resign from the school. Either he raped her and was lying, or she made up the rape, and was lying. It was not properly investigated, and it shocked me that neither person was dismissed. What most shocked me, though, was the attitude of the so-called leader of the church. So I can definitely see a cover-up like this happening, to save the reputation of the church.
