Incredible! I had seen that the search had been called off, then the story that he was alive popped up! So happy!

“Clauson, who was found with sunburns and in rough condition, was transported to Carteret Health Care, where he’s expected to be okay.

Buck said Clauson told detectives he was able to subsist off of rainwater.”

I do think these 2 gents owe it to LE and SAR to give an honest and true account of what actually happened.

Interesting to note he came out of the forest in Rams Horn Road the same place as his friend did 8 days earlier.

Did Joshua not hear the SAR teams in there? Was he too weak to shout out to them?

Anyway, a happy ending. Sometimes, it's never too late to hope for the best!

I think there’s a general rule of threes. Generally (a person can survive without) —

Food - 3 weeks
Water - 3 days
Air - 3 minutes

Of course, there are exceptions and it varies depending on the specific environment/scenario. But—generally speaking—the time frames mentioned above are fairly accurate.

So glad for the good outcome.

FWIW, I did survey work in those woods, many years ago, and can tell you that you can be a few feet apart and not be able to see each other. When they say it is dense, they mean it is DENSE. Also, FWIW, I cannot understand why anyone would want to take a walk there. Ticks, chiggers, snakes, fallen timber, holes, rotted out stumps, brambles, and, lots and lots of large spiders that like to make webs between the trees about face high. Oh and of course gnats and mosquitoes and ground wasp nests, and, don't forget the alligators.

Not somewhere I would have ever gone if my paycheck didn't depend on it and not somewhere I'm likely to ever go again.

“Anyone being exposed to the elements like that with very little, no shelter, very little in the way of clothing to deal with the cold weather and then it rained a few times as well, so that’s certainly very concerning for anyone to be out in the forest overnight, a few days, much less for eight days,” Sheriff Asa Buck told WITN.

He told WITN that Clauson was sunburned and had reportedly survived drinking rainwater.

This is great news. I’m curious…if he was foraging exotic fungi, could that work in favor of survival? Closest analogy I can think of is how extremely drunk people actually have a better survival rate from falls & car accidents (compared to regular drunk) because the body is so relaxed.

Usually only 3 to 4 days!

You can only survive approx between 3-4 days without water but you can survive much longer without food
