What in the world happened to them since February 2009 that would lead to this outcome?

Why in the world would KT ask someone that she didn't get long with to help her after surgery?

This just simply isn't making sense...

I agree that it does not make sense, but we're trying to understand a killer's thought process, which rarely makes sense.

Based on the information from the locals, it was not that KT did not get along with DH; it was the other way around.

But inviting DH to come and take care of her while she recovered from (unnecessary?) cosmetic surgery could have been perceived as a slap in the face to DH. It makes no sense to me that KT would ask her sister to do this -- especially if KT knew her sister had issues with KT's beauty, money, lifestyle, etc.

If KT were trying to smooth things over between them, I don't think this was the way to do it -- ask her sister to be at her beck and call while she recovered from the surgery.

If DH offered to do it -- KT might have been surprised but pleased that things might be headed in a better direction with them. Do you know how it came to be that DH was there?

That KT had money to spend on something possibly seen as frivolous and unnecessary to DH -- especially if this were not the first cosmetic surgery and not the first time KT had asked DH to watch over her -- might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

I think that IF it turns out sister was guilty...it was not premeditated, and that all of the alibi stuff was created in a hurry and may trip her up. Maybe Kathy said something she took wrong...who knows. I have two sisters and one of them is very touchy and takes just about everything wrong when in a certain mood...(I don't think she would kill me but still)

Well, this "who dun it" question really took a turn for me tonight.
At dinner, a friend said a RPD officer (friend) said there is evidence Kathy was sexually assaulted. :waitasec:

I had also heard earlier that the sister found her nude in the bed (rumor).
Of course, there have been many cases where a sexual assault was staged by the killer. Proof will come if they find unknown DNA .

I have really been thinking on this. First of all, why do I or any of us have so much interest in this and other cases we follow on WS or read books about or watched tv shows about? I ask myself that every time a case like this happens and I become so intrigued. For me I think it is that the thought of killing anyone much less a loved one is so so so far out of anything my mind can comprehend. I guess I am always trying to figure out the why and how things get to the point they get to with people.

Anyway, I have 2 sisters and I have been trying to think in the way dynamics between sisters and/or 2 women work. I have formulated my own theory here. What if the sister was to be looking after the victim, sister is sent to the grocery store and instead of getting groceries and returning to the house stops off at G-Grill and gets drunk, stumbles home instead of driving, comes back much later than victim was expecting, victim can't believe sister would leave her for so long then come back drunk, argument, sister says victim thinks she is such hot stuff, victim keeps lecturing sister (who wouldn't), something happens - the crime - sister realizes there is no way her family can find out what she has done (drunk, not looking after victim, allowing an accident) and she then fabricates her story once sober. I really don't think this was a premeditated crime. I sure do wish we could hear the 911 calls, could see if there was any grocery store video / cash register time stamp, ditto w/ G-Grill, just in general find out what the sister said happened.

These twists are very interesting.

Absence of DNA will not necessarily mean that it was staged but the presence of DNA also doesn't mean that the sister wasn't somehow connected.

I find it very interesting that she offered to stay, given her feelings for KT as described here.

If the rumor of a sexual assault is true...would make sense as to why LE was hoping to speak to people who traveled that route on a Friday night/Saturday AM regularly, BUT it does not make sense if they are not releasing the fact that a rapist/killer may be on the loose, which I gather they are not doing? Which does make one tend to think they already have an idea of who the perp is and that no one else is in danger...

Just two cent to add to the theories. If D is the per (and I emphasize if) her plan may have been to wound her severely on the head, causing death. Then wait until the next morning, and call 911, hoping/thinking that it would look like complications from surgery, and that no one would look any further. If D had no medical or LE, or sleuthing background she may have believed that it would be that simple - KT gets taken to the ER either DOA, or close to it. The death, in D's logic, would be attributed to surgical complications - case closed. She has nothing to worry about. IF, and I emphasize IF, she is the perp, it may be a case of a perp who thinks the perfect crime was committed. But, in reality she didn't know what she didn't know, and oversimplified in her mind how deeply the death would be investigated. JMO

If suspicions are confirmed by the arrest of D, I can only imagine how much more misery and devastation it will add to a family rocked by such a terrible crime.

Would love to know what make/model car the sister drove.
Almost all cars make it impossible to leave your keys in the ignition and lock the door. Locking keys in the car is very fishy.

If the rumor is true she was found nude w/ evidence of rape, it would mesh with the attempted break-in in the neighborhood. At the same time, the cops should be able to announce this as a random crime by now. Why have they not?

This case is getting stranger and stranger.

We have friends on the other side of Oberlin and they had an electrician install motion detector spots and are seriously considering an alarm.
Yes, the total lack of info from RPD is causing high anxiety.

There was a case in Raleigh 7 years ago where a young lady (Stephanie Bennett) was brutally attacked, raped and killed as she slept in her apartment. The cops immediately reported the basics of what happened, saying they were looking for a random suspect.
