media & RPD are all being strong armed. More pull than most people have a clue about.

So, are people in the Ral area not demanding answers?
Chief Dolan said they are not ruling out a random act of violence and reminded the public to secure their homes and to stay vigilant about their safety. (3-11-10)

Media lock down and plea to public
Chief Dolan asked the media and public to respect the judge’s decision for the integrity of the investigation and for the Taft family.

Strong-armed by state officials? Because of family influence and status?

So, does anyone think the attempted break in at a neighbors house was staged by the perp?

  • #285
hmm....yes

What was the point of the cops doing the checkpoint then? Simply to check her alibi? It seems the checkpoint would do more to cause fear in the neighborhood of an intruder. I know there are still some towns where politics rule all...but the public has a right to be comforted by the fact that this is not a stranger on stranger crime, which is what everyone almost fears most. I think this whole thing stinks, if the cops are protecting a prominent family; wonder if they will even make an arrest at all. The media must be pretty browbeaten if they will lie down like this.

The cops did the exact same thing in the Cary NC murder of Nancy Cooper.
They passed out flyers at a check point for several days....all the while knowing her husband Brad was the primary suspect (arrested 3 months later).

============================================
Suspicious they sealed the 911 call(s) from the sister. How could that compromise the investigation of 'random' intruder?

Same DA explaining why he did not seal the 911 call in Nancy Cooper's death

"We did not want to file a motion or make any requests that the 911 call be sealed," Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby said of the calls. "We didn't think it was critical to the investigation, and therefore, we did not see any reason to try to suppress it. So we've not taken any action."
Cary police have not said how Nancy Cooper died, and they have not named any suspects or persons of interest in her death, although they have said they do not believe the crime was random.

So the cops regularly waste taxpayer money pretending to investigate crimes when they already have a suspect? And no one raises a stink over this? Don't they things they could be doing in Raleigh besides setting up possibly phony checkpoints? From what I read, Raleigh has its share of crime...

Maybe someone saw the sister coming or going in the same time frame?
The checkpoint served a purpose.
Plus, if they have their eyes on D, they still must investigate all other possibilities or 'rush to judgement' will be an issue at trial

Perhaps D was insanely jealous of big sis....Did Kathy's quest for eternal beauty send her over the edge?

I suppose it would not be a waste of resources if it adds to the case they are building against a suspect. Someone mentioned earlier that the checkpoint would indicate that LE IS INDEED pursuing all leads, such as the attempted break-in blocks away, rather than following a single theory. I support that if it helps nail down a eventual conviction.

I apologize if I come off as rude....not intended that way. But.....one phone call from someone is ALL it takes. The DA who sealed the 911 tapes.....I do believe his wife served on board with KT. KT's ex is a wealthy attorney & former state senator......the list of close ties is verrrrry long.
C'mon. We all want to thank that all are treated the same....money, no money....ties, no ties.
Suppose a bit of a hypocrite.....I've rec'd because I had access to those exact things. Would I have rec'd had I not had $ & ties. NOT a chance.

  • #295
Looks like KT's facebook page was taken down.

  • #296
Nope, it's still there but can only be seen by those of us who were already on her friend list.

I am not naive....just surprised that the residents of Raleigh and the media would not be making a lot of noise about a cover-up...I know these things happen but in this media-age it is much harder to get away with cover-ups than in the past...something on internet leaked or whatever...I understand that reporters might not want to risk their jobs but there are always annonymous leaks in every case...IMO

ruben -thanks for being patient and informative with queries. I have not thought you have come across as rude at all. I am grateful you are participating on this board. How did you find us?

I don't live in NC so am unfamiliar with the politics. A quick news search told me KT had lost a state senate race in 2008. Is that correct? And which former VP? AG?

  • #299
KT did lose the race for state senator. However, her ex was a state senator. AG...yes

There have been leaks in this case as well. But all they have to do is say they're still looking & not ruling out random act to pacify some. Lot will buy this because it's easier to think it's a stranger than a relative.
