I think it is easier to believe it is a relative than a stranger...IMO. This does not at all sound like a stranger-type crime to me...who goes into a little house in the middle of the night and beats an elderly woman over the head and leaves? This sounded far more like a person close to victim from the start, to me. And the immediate clamp-down of info to public only adds to that theory...anyone who thinks it is was a random crime...why? I don't see that at all. I just don't like the way the local LE is handling it...too good-ole-boy for me (but then I am a New Yorker, so that might just be me...)

What I meant is.......those who knew K.....very difficult to swallow it being D. Easier for family to think it's stranger.
Do most think D? Deep down...yes.

PS- No offense intended above...I am just a cynic at heart... we have plenty of eyebrow-raising activity where to anyone i now live (NM) regarding state officials and covered up incidents so I guess it is everywhere...though usually stops short of possible murder charges...and in NY, no one thinks the cops or LE are beyond suspicion ever...

There have been leaks in this case as well. But all they have to do is say they're still looking & not ruling out random act to pacify some. Lot will buy this because it's easier to think it's a stranger than a relative.

I respectfully disagree that it's easier to think it's stranger-on-stranger crime. After any crime, for the public at large, I think it is much more distressing to be under the impression that it is random. My own interest in true crime stems from my need to make sense of some of the horrible things that happen. When I can focus on a family or acquainance issue, it helps me feel a bit more insulated from such a thing happening in my own life. I know...I know....unfortunately that may be a false sense of security in this day and age. :(

I DO understand that those closest to this terrible tragedy would naturally want to believe it was a wrong place/wrong time scenario rather than try to grasp that someone who was trusted could have betayed KT so horrifically. You seem to have accepted and faced the possiblity though, ruben. Are any other inner circle folks thinking similarly?

Media is not asking LE anything or even questioning LE. Then again, the longer time passes the more D will slip. Didn't think even she could go this long without it eating her up inside.

oh YES

ruben321 is correct regarding the connections - they cannot be over emphasized or underestimated. There are lots of political implications here.

I posted this link previously to the NC State Board's website. You'll see the Wake County's DA's wife (PW) serves on the board. That is just one example of the types of connections we're talking about.

ETA: Is it reasonable to suggest the DA may have a conflict of interest in investigating this case? Should someone else be doing it?

Coco, I meant that the public would prefer it is a relative...not sure if what I said cam across...because then they do not need to be afraid...
Stranger-on-stranger is a fear everyone has...people want to be able to know that a violent crime has an explanation that ties to victim (even if one that is beyond the pale of understanding...)

By stressing all of these high-powered connections, is anyone inferring that no charges will ever be brought? And if not inferring this, than what are these high connections going to accomplish in the long run?

OFF TOPIC......cluciano - you may not know it but you are giving away your relative age here. Just poking fun at you for referring to age 62 as 'elderly'. Really?

And now I have given away MY age bracket as well. :blushing:

KT did lose the race for state senator. However, her ex was a state senator. AG...yes

Her X, Tommy Taft, is a wealthy trial lawyer.
Office is located directly in front to the ER entrance of Pitt Memorial.
Shades of John Edwards.

Why would the cops and DA protect the sister or anyone else ?
On the contrary, they are working 24-7 to solve this case and make an arrest, no matter who this killer is.

TOTALLY AGREE with you Cluciano! I don't think my message came across as that! My wordiness gets in the way of what I am trying to say sometimes.

Notice these trial lawyers always want to get into politics?
Rest assured their motive is not to serve the people.

Well I am getting up there in years..but just meant elderly as opposed to young I guess...and I thought she was in late sixties if that makes a difference:) again, no offense intended...

I guess what I do not get is what is the great protection they are getting then? If it is thought that sister may be charged anyway, why all the secrecy? They won't be able to keep that part secret. I don't know what having great big contacts has to do with LE not advising citizens that they are most likely safe. Do they think people are not drawing their own conclusions? Not sure I am saying this right...but just not seeing that their high level contacts etc....are getting them anything more than extra speculations about family...

IMO, charges will absolutely be brought forward, but it will be highly controlled and managed - not like your typical investigation. We're already seeing that.

RPD is probably under extreme pressure not to screw up in any way, therefore, they are dotting their "i's" and crossing their "t's."

Remember, Raleigh is the capital city of NC - it is a political town; that is its bread-&-butter. If there is any hint of publicity for politicians they would prefer to control and avoid it. I'm not saying any politician is involved, just trying to explain why this case is being controlled.

Apologize...but.....You don't get it. Wanting the interest to die down a bit. Hoping another "big media" case will take the limelight off of KT. A family member being charged will give the whole family unwanted attention, bad press & people start digging in places that we don't want dug. Get it.
Control of the situation.....when & how this will play out.
