I am the only one on the site : (. I was driving on Oberlin yesterday and went past Cartier and thought about how JW had driven the same route. Then I realized I was behind a Mellow Mushroom catering truck (at 9 AM mind you). I guess the coincidences in life keep it interesting. GL~ go to the doctor TOMORROW if you are not much better!!

Good Morning All, I don't know if I feel sorry for this witness.... or if she is just getting on my nerves, very badly. I am quite certain she is glad JW is in her distant past.

Not a model citizen, but she was in a negative relationship and she has a weak personality, IMO - she has been shaking throughout entire time on witness stand -- and Driver, of all people, is doing the cross. Committed embezzlement against Domino's Pizza - used cocaine - clean since 2007. I do feel sorry for her -- she was no match for JW & he knew it, IMO. She made a lot of bad choices - there was one other guy who could have been father of her child. Petitioned court for child support by JW - he was given visitation rights - child was "no more than a few months old."

This attorney is such an a**. OK, she has lied. She admitted it. We get it. He wins the "beat a horse to death" award. This garners no sympathy toward the defendant from me and I doubt it's eliciting such from the jury.

I sent my post when she had only been on the stand for about 10 minutes. Way before many of the facts came out of her mouth. She has quit shaking now--she is in major defiant mode with the defense cross. I do not like her, do not feel sorry for her. Everybody is due a second, third and sometimes 4th chance. I hope she now has a normal, happy and loving life.

Good morning! I missed the morning session and see they are now on break. I'll have to catch the first witness's testimony on WRAL video playback.

Again, not a model citizen, but MJC is just one more casualty of Hurricane Jason. She was young, and somehow, like JF, was drawn to his flame. Then the drinking threw an entire other dimension into the relationship and each of the women tried to weather it because they loved him. And MJC's relationship was raised up exponentially due to the pregnancy & birth. Also I think his parents being so nice and loving and generous with each relationship complicated it because it gave a degree of hope.

KW to the stand for DT. Tells of being "proud father" of JW, has pics of JW, etc., when young. This is rehabilitating for KW, but it doesn't help JW. Just shows a young, loving "normal"-looking family. KW is doing fine on stand just now. JW is (genuinely, IMO) getting teary & swallowing hard. He is aware of his surroundings, and it goes to show he is in the here & now and not in the least insane or addled. No help for the perp so far. Conner is doing the questioning.

These witnesses, like the parents, showing what amounts to home movies and photo albums, interspersed with family stories, is like being trapped at a family reunion with a family you don't know.

As a juror I would highly resent having to sit through this kind of flotsam. Of course JW's family loves him and wants to save his life--that's a given.

It's really a case of mitigating vs aggravating circumstances the jury will have to weigh to make this kind of decision. Not who had the best family stories.

So they were comic books. I remember when I was googling, IIRC, Predator, kept coming up for the 1980's *series*, but I dismissed it because it was listed as Marvel/Comic, etc.

I had to mute this testimony. It is pointless. Sorry, I don't mean to be heartless... but I guess I am. A bitter, heartless woman. That's me!

No, seriously, none of this does anything but waste time. I don't personally think this murder rises to the DP levels as I think the DP should be reserved for the worst of the worst (mass murderers, the guys who killed the Petit family, that kind of level of crime). In JW's case it was one murder/rape and thankfully he got caught. Yes, it was evil. But IMO not DP-worthy. And remember, I'm a bitter, heartless woman and I think this case deserves LWOP.

I agree, Madeleine -- I don't think this crime is on a DP level, although JW did attack a quite defenseless victim, and he did some ugly things to her. IMO, I think that the DA was under pressure from the powers that be to elevate this to the DP level. If I were on the jury, I would vote for LWOP at this time.

Plus with LWOP, JW will be with the gen. pop., and I think that's where he ought to be. DP inmates are far more protected in their isolation & I think that would be a "briar patch" for Brer Jason. He doesn't deserve special attention. Just put him out there with the rest of the folks like him. Sink or swim. And he'll be much more anonymous there. He may stay at Central. We'll see...

Oh, holy-moly -- now we get to hear the convict sing. Dayam. Can this help??

Oh for god's sakes, this reminds me of that gainesville killer and his courtroom songfest.

Oh goodie. JW can serenade his new cell mates.

This only confirms how JW threw away every good thing that he had, all the support he had, etc. I don't think it's a good strategy to remind the jury that this guy wasn't abused, was well taken care of, had advantages, was given help... and still turned into an alcoholic, drug-addled, deviant perv who everyone coddled right up to the point he raped and murdered a sleeping woman.

Perhaps the defense will grace us with an encore. :maddening:

Hey, you out there, yes you, the one from the DT that reads this stuff. How about something in the memory of Kathy Taft? Only please, not JW on vocals. I've always had a softness for 'The Rose', Bette Midler.
