GUILTY NC - Kennedy McLaurin, 16, Goldsboro, 9 Sept 2012

I just realized that it hasn't been officially confirmed that it is him. It sounds like it must be, be that just dawned on me. My condolences to his family and friends. I can't quite say RIP yet, but my thoughts are with them all.

Goldsboro, N.C. &#8212; Four men suspected of kidnapping and killing a 16-year-old Goldsboro boy two weeks ago made their first court appearance Monday on murder charges.

Authorities say the four had a motive to kill McLaurin, but they have not elaborated on that, other than to say the crime was neither random nor gang-related.
Body still hasn't been positively identified.

Kennedy McLaurin, Jr., 16, 404 Banks Ave. died in Seven Springs.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 12 Noon at the LBJ Community Center located at 1007 South John Street. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Survivors include his parents: Kim Best of the home, Kennedy McLaurin, Sr., of Goldsboro; grandmothers Elder Janice Robinson of the home, Sadie McLaurin, of Goldsboro; grandfather Tommy Faison of Goldsboro.

Visitation Sunday from 2 PM until 7 PM at the Haskins Funeral Home, 601 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro.

The family will recieve friends at the home, where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.

According to an autopsy report, McLaurin was shot twice in the chest, beaten on the head with a shovel, burned, buried, and then dug up a day later and re-buried.

Jerome Jilah Butts, 21, Kevin Edward Smith, 20, and Curtis Etheridge, 19, all of Goldsboro pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping in the case. Butts and Etheridge were each sentenced to 15¼ to 20 years in prison, while Smith received an 18- to 23½-year sentence.

A jury convicted Leonard Eugene Joyner, 23, of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping in the case. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
