GUILTY NC - Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, murdered, Hatteras Island, 3 July 2012

  • #241
Searchers hiked paths and access roads Thursday, looking for signs of Jackenheimer. They concentrated on areas near the cottage where Jackenheimer, Summerfield and the children stayed July 1 through July 6.

"We didn't find anything of evidentiary value," said Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard of the Dare County Sheriff's Office. "We'll crank back up at 8 tomorrow morning and hit a few areas, and we've got another neighborhood we want to do just because it's close (to the cottage)."

Family friend Jen Riley said Jackenheimer's mother and about five other friends have been trying to contact law enforcement in Virginia and are considering traveling there. It's been reported that Summerfield spent a night there on his way back to Ashland.

This is all so sad! Does anyone else find it strange that in several pictures of Lynn, she is wearing items that cover her neck? With her past with him, it makes me wonder if she did not feel some "protection" with items such as scarfs. She is such a beautiful girl! The picture on Facebook is strange....but the hair does look long to me as compared with the one on beach where he was with the kids. I find it sad (if it isn't him) that no-one offered to strike up a conversation with him, it was obvious he was troubled if he sat out there all day. :( I wish Nate's brother would (or someone in Ashland who might have known) let the public know what type of tag (out of the four Ohio plates) he had. We need a system such as the Amber Alert set up for older people who might be in danger. I think it is strange that the Ashland Police have not given more details about the car on the BOLO for Nate......hopefully that is a sign that they know way more than they are telling.

One of the OII (Oregon Inlet Idiots) FB page folks did go up & talk to him.

From the comments on the pic:

Oregon Inlet Idiots One of our crew member did speak with him, as this guy walked over to the people in the Minivan that was stuck and pointed in our direction letting the people know we could help, then he went back over and sat down again. We had just never seen someone sit like this on the ramp all day and in jeans. I was hot as heck out there, but it didn't seem to phase this guy.

Somehow they know he stayed in a hotel in Richmond, and I sure hope that by now the police have all that ATM information, (my bank never forgets when i go :) ) You are right, he could have snuck in town.....which brings me to a cell phone question for all you technology gurus. Since they found Nate's phone, are there ways that law enforcement can track the GPS of a phone, like backtrack? I know they can retrieve messages, and track towers through what his cell phone ping towers off of, but does this keep the info? Can they play a game of connect the dots with the various towers that his phone picked up on his journey home? I know that even if you do not make a phone call or receive one, or text, that your phone still says "hello" (or pings?! I can't think of another term!!) to each new tower it hits off. I hope this makes sense to someone.....

BBM

Yes & yes! You used the correct term ;)

"construction and demolition landfill near Stumpy Point,"
"Most villagers have canals in their side or back yards,"

This article from last year gives me a little more perspective about the area surrounding the Outer Banks. I see why it would be a hard search. I wonder if they have checked canals, etc?

The C&D landfill would only be used for exactly that, though. Household waste would go somewhere else. I'm not sure where? There was a landfill at East Lake, that was used when I was growing up. But I haven't seen much activity there in years.

ETA: It looks like from this article that the household waste goes inland to Bertie County

Appx. 10am EST this morning from OII FB page:

Oregon Inlet Idiots shared their own photo.
We have spoken twice this morning with the Dare Co Sheriff's office regarding this photo that was taken on July 4th. Not sure who this person is or if it is Nate Summerfield. One of our crew members spoke to this gentleman that day, said he looked to be in his 40s and was missing teeth, and we posted the picture because it was odd that someone would sit all day in 100 degree temps on the beach in black jeans & boots. The only people he interacted with that day was our crew member and the people in the Mini Van that was stuck. He used his cell phone several times during the day. If anyone else saw this gentleman up close while they were at Ramp 4 and can give a description, please call the Dare Co Sheriff's Office. Every little bit of information is helpful, even if you don't think it is. We will continue to help in anyway we can and answer any questions.

From the Outerbanks link:

The pair, along with Jackenheimer’s two children, rented a house for one week near the corner of Cutlass Lane and Colony Drive.

I believe this is the rental house. Near corner of Cutlass and Colony. Top window looks a tad different but that could have been replaced. Hard to tell in rental photo. But I am 99% sure this is house.

ok now there is a claim that he left the daughter in a motel room? Didn't the other reports say she was left at her grandparents? I don't think everyone has the same story about where the children were left.

I've read 2 accounts: One is that he left her at her grandfather's house alone (LJ's stepfather). One is that he left her alone at HIS house and the family found her there on the computer? I'm not entirely sure. If it was the grandfather's house and he was gone, how'd she get inside?

maybe they have a hidden key, or leave a door unlocked, some peeps in my family just leave doors unlocked-the dogs will keep strangers from waltzing in...
the above interview says he left her in a hotel room? i guess it doesn't matter as long as the children were safe. I just wonder how much is true? If they can't get the story straight about where the children were left (fairly easy iMO) how are they going to methodically check out NS and figure out where he is?

That's a nice place and very large for just the 4 of them. Did they have the whole house or just a floor?

I think she was a great mom and she went on the trip just so they could have a great experience (and she could be with them while they enjoy it. I think her love for her kids and wanting them to have fun overrode her fears.

Maybe the daughter is making reference to being in a hotel room. I thought that it had been clear from the beginning that she was returned to the grandparents house on Sunday morning.

additional note...
An article that I read this morning stated "Dorchester, OH". He lives on Dorchester Street in Ashland, OH. One example of how things get distorted in the media.

Maybe that was part of the deal for them to go on this vacation. He rented a place with two separate apartments and he was in the smaller one while her and the kids were in the bigger one?
