Missing woman’s remains found ‘entombed in concrete’; police search for caretaker

Authorities are investigating a disturbing crime after they said a 70-year-old woman was found entombed in concrete in the basement of her Avery County home earlier this week.

Deputies are currently searching for the woman’s caretaker in connection with the case.

Missing NC woman's body found buried in concrete at home; caretaker charged, sheriff says

NEWLAND, N.C. -- A western North Carolina sheriff says a caretaker for a woman who was found dead last week in her home - buried in concrete in the basement - has been arrested and charged with murder.

Elizabeth Carserino, 53, of Goose Creek, S.C. was in the Avery County jail on secured bond of more than $1.6 million, Avery Sheriff Kevin Frye announced in a news release.

Frye's deputies assumed custody of Carserino - also known as Elizabeth Freeman - on Saturday after deputies in Jackson County had taken her in that day on outstanding warrants from Avery on vehicle larceny, identity theft and financial card theft charges, according to Frye's release. Her first court appearance could be as soon as Monday, Frye said.
