If you're referring to the MJ comment, that's not past tense. English translation according to FB:
"My daughter has always been a Michael Jackson fan.. He put on his hat, gloves, ballerinas and danced like him... Moon walk... Health..."

Past tense would be "my daughter was always a MJ fan".

I was just writing a post about this. I agree, it doesn't sound as badly when using Google, it loses a lot of its nuance. I am Romanian, and in Romanian it's more like "she would put on her hat ... she would dance like him.." More like the language you use when reminiscing about a person who is no longer here. Of course, I may be biased, and see things that aren't there.

Thanks for explaining how it sounds in Romanian. That definitely changes the way the message is received.

Thank you, I was really starting to think I may have rushed to judgement. There are differences between how Romanians and Moldovans speak, even though it's the same language, so maybe the difference could come from there. To me, her post has a definite reminiscence vibe.

ETA: wasn't she afraid of MJ? How brave of her to make that post

Interesting question. "Bring her home." To where? Isn't home wherever he mother is, essentially? If mom knows where she is, has authorized another adult to caretake, perhaps Madalina is already home, wherever that is.

It does seem like LE could have asked for proof of life and the Court could have kept her in custody for as long as she withheld answer. Usually there's a corresponding parent who pushes the issue because they're experiencing the absence of the child. This case is unique that way. It was the school that first asked where is she? If CPS is involved, I assume they have a duty of care and close a case until it's satisfied -- which would require, at a minimum, that proof of life.

I wonder what the actual law is. Does a single parent have the duty to produce the child simply because the school/caseworker/LE asks? What crime exactly is in play? The obvious, if the child is well and good, actively schooling, why wouldn't a parent want to show that? It suggests maybe the child isn't well and good...

What happens if, the day Madalina reaches 18, she comes forward to authenticate herself that she is indeed well and good, was raised in a safe place? Case closed? For what reason would a mother, with singular custody, forego a decade of her only child's life? Real or imagined fear? Why such an elaborate safe-keeping scheme?

Someday will it make sense?

Leanne Stefan said her granddaughter played with Madalina at least once a week for nearly three years when they were 8, 9 and 10 years old.

“I would go over there and go in the house. The living room was filled with toys: doll houses, horses, everything a girl could want ... Never once did I suspect anything," Stefan said. “When they would see each other, my granddaughter would like ‘Madi!’ They would just hug each other and it was just precious what they had.”

Stefan said they tried several times to have Madalina Cojocari over to their house to play, but except for one time, Diana Cojocari always said “no.”

However, nearly three years into the girls' friendship, Stefan said a text sent by Diana Cojocari, brought the friendship to a halt.

“[It] said something along the lines of, ‘I feel like you’re taking advantage of me because you don’t pay me,’” Stefan said.

What haunts Leanne to this day is the “what if” of if her granddaughter had been playing at Madalina Cojocari’s house the day the girl went missing.

“Sometimes I wonder, would both girls be gone? God, I hope not,” Stefan said tearfully.

This entire interview sounds very gossipy and dramatic. JMO

so Diana refused to let her daughter go to the friend's, insisting that play time happen at her own home, and then was irked she wasn't being paid for providing the supervision she herself insisted she must have control of. Not at all surprised. Diana is about money and the pursuit of material things. Right down to monetizing playtime with her daughter.

I wonder if we will ever know what became of Madalina :(

Diana’s home, presumably with her family but no happy reunion between mother and daughter.

Where is Madalina? At this point it looks like she was left behind. IMO momma Diana is a dangerous person, capable of harming her daughter. Was she jealous of Madalina’s youth and beauty? I’ve seen no indication whatsoever that Diana cares about her.

Cripes, Diana couldn’t even let Madalina have play dates without making it about herself and ruining everything. Poor, sweet little girl.

Are Moldavian authorities aware of all this? Are they also looking into Madalina's disappearance?
Not Moldavian, but I am quite sure they are aware. Madalinas case was in the news in many many countries in Europe that are far away from Moldova. The Moldovan people are aware of the case for sure and I am hopeful that the US police/government had official contact with Moldovian ones. As no crimes were committed in Moldova (AFAIK), they might not have a case for her per say. Has Madalina been added to Interpol? If yes, can anyone please link her profile? If not, does anyone know, why not?
Unfortunately, I personally feel like she was most likely killed and buried on US soil and never made it to Moldova. But there is hope, of course.

Just a small correction, Madalina’s birthday is April 11. “La multi ani” is a celebration wish that doesn’t have a good English equivalent that I know of. It roughly means “may (you) live many years” and it’s used both for birthdays but it’s also the traditional wish on New Year day. Actually people say “La multi ani” at midnight on New Year, and usually greet each other saying La Multi Ani when they first see each other in the new year. And it’s almost a must to call or send texts to family and friends wishing them all the best and La Multi Ani.
So, I think DC was wishing Madalina a happy new year. I really want to cling to the hope that Madalina is alive, but sadly I think her mother robbed her of her “many years”. :(

Thank you for explaining the meaning of her comment, just so strange of her to say anything to Madalina now. Also I can see from another facebook she has that she seems to be doing her ritualistic beliefs as she was known to do here in NC .

To me this could read 2 different ways. Either Diana all of a sudden got a bug up her butt or someone was in Diana's ear about the situation. I really do wonder if she gave her away to someone, or sold her... maybe child bride type situation?

January 17, 2025

Newly obtained search warrants connected to the disappearance of Madalina Cojocari reveal that, at least early on, the investigation centered around "believed sexual exploitation" of a minor child victim.

The warrants, obtained by WCNC Charlotte, also reveal, that in the days after Madalina Cojocari was last seen, her mattress, clothing, Halloween costume and family photos were burned in a fire pit outside a Cornelius home.

A State Bureau of Investigation warrant shows investigators seized a phone in late December 2022. Analysis of that device identified a Discord account with 37 unread messages, the warrant said.
"Investigators believe this account belongs to the missing minor child," the warrant said. That same warrant, filed in January 2023, noted, "This investigation involves the believed sexual exploitation of minor child victim."
