GUILTY NC - Maggie Daniels, 31, murdered in her Newton apartment, 27 June 2014

My thoughts exactly. Coach seems a bit "American Beauty-ish" needy

Sorry to quote myself. I should have read her twitter before posting something so brash and insensitive: most of her conversations are like that.

He almost sounded obsessed with her.

Way too convenient that he was so specific about urging her to be careful. Then bam she turns up dead. MOO

Maybe she had an open house policy where anyone with a problem could come and see her..
She sounds like she was very involved with her profession and her students. Perhaps she cared too much and someone took advantage of her caring nature. JMOO

The 911 caller who reported the death of a former Magnificat High School and Notre Dame College student said it seemed like her body had been there for at least a day.

The caller didn't identify himself but said he was a friend of Maggie Daniels, 31, who was found dead in her Newton, North Carolina apartment Saturday.
The statements of the 911 caller seem odd. I wonder if he was still at Maggie's apt. when LE arrived. Do they know who the caller is?

When asked if there was any blood, the caller said he didn't know. Can LE trace the call to Maggie's apt? Or did he use a cell phone? Some of the statements make me think he wasn't really in Maggie's apt. when he made the call.

The recording of the call is at the link.

Oh, another thing that's been on my mind...

The maintenance worker at the apartments said he saw Maggie returning home around lunch time. He said she was wearing black sweatpants. IMO, she may have gone for a jog. I wonder what she was wearing when LE arrived.

Another thing about the 911 call: the caller initially told the dispatcher, "One of my friends is in that apartment and she's been --" He then said, "I think she has been laying there for about a day."

The obvious question is how did he know how long Maggie had been dead. Did he start to say that his friend had been murdered? The caller replied that he didn't know when the dispatcher asked him if Maggie was alive or dead. He said, "They are going to go in there." Who are "they"? Again, it didn't sound like he was actually in Maggie's apartment when he made the call because he said that she was in "that" apartment.

The caller seemed to contradict himself. If he thought she'd been "laying there for about a day," surely she wasn't alive. Sounds like he was trying to estimate how long she'd been dead, but then cast doubt whether she was dead. Even the statement "one of my friends" seems odd. Most people, IMO, would say something like, "a friend of mine is in her apartment lying facedown, motionless and unresponsive..." JMO

The statements just don't make sense to me. Anyone else find them a bit "off"?

I think he was in shock. There was a mother and daughter there who originally went in. He may have been with them and only glanced at the body and called 911.

I thought the same thing at first, but then I thought maybe she had told this coach something creepy about her neighbor, and then the coach was warning her.

The call is strange to me, but not suspicious just yet. Seems as if the caller is putting distance between himself and the situation, but this could be just his reaction to trauma. The statement about I think she's been in there about a day is odd, especially given his seeming reluctance to giving a straight answer as to whether she is alive or dead.

And then at .43 seconds, he states "I didn't even want to touch it", and I think this is in reference to Maggie herself. The depersonalization is a bit odd, but again it could be his reaction to trauma.

I want to know what he was doing there. Is he a neighbor? He called her a friend-was he the friend that she was supposed to meet with? Or was that the Addie woman they interviewed? Who got there first? And where was he if he didn't get there first?

Seen quite a few cases now where the 911 caller provides information that is probably better coming from the ME.

Time will tell.

When I posted about the locked doors, for some reason I thought it was NYC. I never said anything about taking selfies was strange. She was very pretty. I did not judge anyway. I just said 'if I looked like her', I would take selfies too - seems like a compliment to me. I have not looked at her FB page but I thought maybe it was public since someone mentioned the selfies.

Sorry Kensie, my post wasn't directed towards you. It was meant to quote the same person you also quoted. Your quote made sense and was respectful. Sorry for the confusion. It looks like my post was mod snipped so that wasn't clear but it looks like others got to post the same thing I was thinking to that poster.

I wonder how likely it is that the 911 caller was also the neighbor she was warned about. It could just be that he had been trying to call her for a day with no answer, but it sounds more like he saw her lying there the day before. It could mean that he murdered her, or it could be that he had found her earlier but was afraid to call. Possibly because he was the neighbor she'd been discussing and was afraid he'd be blamed if he found her by himself. MOO

It sounds to me as if he is saying I didn't touch her, not it. It's just southern accent and hard to understand.

I doubt it would be the neighbor since a neighbor should know the address to the building. Sounds like a visiting friend
