Two years later, in 2012, Odom faced similar charges again: second degree rape, robbery and assault by strangulation.

A prosecutor said in the court file that there were problems with evidence. The victim was a prostitute, money was exchanged, and there were credibility issues on both sides.

When WBTV spoke with the woman who filed that police report, she said she was not a prostitute, and that she and Odom actually dated a little.

She said the night of the attack, she thought she would die. "He strangled me to the point of no return. I was just asking him to please stop and he didn't say nothing, he just kept choking me," she said. WBTV is protecting her identity, which is standard in cases of sexual assault.

No it's not clear at all. A real mystery. Way back in this thread I posted a twitter pic showing Maggie's empty parking spot and it appears to me, from that tweet, that her vehicle was parked in front of her apartment?.

On Tuesday, Newton Police Department stood by their claim that Odom and Daniels did not no each other. According to Fox 46 Legal Analyst Corey Rosensteel, the defense and prosecutition can takeaway different things from this.

"From a defense perspective, you now have an argument that people who saw them together, or just his presence in the apartment, does no longer mean he must have had an ulterior motive," Rosensteel said. "From the prosecution side, you are now looking at this as could we gain some sort of insight in what a motive could be."

She may have mistaken him from another African American male that Maggie is close with. I doubt a one year old memory especially if she didn't know the perp well. How long has he even lived in newton with charges in Mecklenburg county and family in Winston Salem?

I am searching for the link to the source (the maintenance man/janitor) that Maggie would sunbathe on her front porch. She had no front porch. She had a patio in the back where the sliding door is located, right side if facing the front of the apt. I cannot understand why she would sunbathe in the front yard when she had a private patio and a backyard available. Even if the patio became shady too early in the day, she still had the large backyard area to use. Also, did the apt. complex have a swimming pool? I did not notice one in the Bing aerial view that's been posted here.

I believe the killer was a serial rapist, as has been opined here often. The lovely Maggie, imho, suffered a brutal rape and horrific strangulation by an evil doer wearing long dreadlocks.

bbm - I just did a search here on this thread and the first mention of this can be seen at below link. No link in the post to back it up though?. I haven't been able to find any mention of it in MSM either?.

I'm really baffled by this too and especially on the same morning that Maggie was found. Still not clear if he actually did pick it up though?. What was he going to do with it anyway - bring it back to Maggie's apt?.

Was he thinking about staging something with her body in the car???? Did he care that much? Or was he so cocky that he didn't think it would ever come back to him? Did he just want to use her car for a trip out of town (stupid if so).

Just to add - and this is wild speculation - his mother's behaviour might hint toward *why* Odom had such a sense of entitlement over the lives of the women he foisted himself upon.... I am speculating that maybe he could do no wrong in her eyes, no matter what kind of he actually was. Though I would not be surprised if it comes out that she was also controlling and abusive.

Because I mean, three attacks on members of the media. That's not somebody in possession of great self-control. Or someone who is particularly sorry for what her son has done.

Indeed, Ausgirl -- you took the words out of my mouth. I've been cookin' on his mother's actions, and feel the same way. One of those, "No, Miss Teacher, you are wrong. My Sharman did not do that. He would never cheat on a test." or whatever. Lots of these mothers. And yes, I do think it gives a certain feeling of invincibility to the child. And she may have been over-bearing with him as he was growing up. No excuses, whatsoever for SO, but it does give children growing into adulthood a certain view of themselves vs. others. JMHO

WRAL live streamed the Jason Young and Brad Cooper trials, but I have not seen them cover this crime.

WRAL, based in Raleigh, NC, has streamed a fair amount of trials but most have been trials in Raleigh (Wake County), Durham (neighboring Durham County), and Chapel Hill (nearby Orange County). The courtroom has to have some measure of set-up in place so that WRAL can stream. Also, allowing live coverage must be approved by the Judge. No idea about their plans, if any on this one. I wouldn't think that a trial would be anytime soon, either. I do think that this one would be a good one to cover -- not too gruesome, etc. I don't know if there might be a TV station in that area that may already stream trial. Charlotte, NC is a big city and not too far away from Newton... dunno.

Charlotte is about 45 miles from Newton; Raleigh is about 170 miles from Newton. Area coverage is what these news stations are all about. That may be why Raleigh stations are not covering this case very closely.

Hi there, I've been stalking this page for a while.. MD was my neighbor, but I did not know her personally. We exchanged a friendly hello on occasion in passing, otherwise I did not know her. A couple things you guys have been speculating over here on this site has me baffled too..

I can definitely tell you MD's car was certainly home at the time her body was found that morning of 06/28. How it got there I have no idea, or if it was there the night before, I don't know that either. I didn't pay well enough attention to that when I got home on Friday night.

MD definitely did sunbathe in the front yard, often. I never thought much of it because the area in the back is mostly covered by a thick brush of trees between us and the school yard and it does stay pretty well shaded back there.

As for the neighbor who states she saw MD with SO in the past.. Same neighbor told me this as well, just after she saw the pics of SO online on Saturday. I told her then I thought she might have SO confused with one of MD's other friends bc as far as I knew she hadn't really known SO on a personal level, other than maybe just as a friendly neighbor type thing.
