I dont know who is "being sleuthed" here...or who that was directed to since it's under my post. What I'm saying is that if LE went to the repair shop THREE TMES and then requested a warrant for the phone records, they have someone in mind...and yes if someone was actually in touch with her and went to her apt to "pick up" her car, they Would Be, quote, my POI in this case. But; of course the golden rule is always work from the inside out....and no one has been ruled out. That we know.

I've already posted this link/quote (Post #69) but bringing it back up because I'm still wondering about the middle sentence BBM in below quote.

“It’s a little unnerving but I figured there was something there between the two of them".?

“It’s terrible. I don’t see how anyone could’ve done this, especially to her,” said Anna Sheets, a church member.

“It’s a little unnerving but I figured there was something there between the two of them. Someone she must’ve known,” said John Guelzow, Daniels’ substitute teacher.

Many have their own theory about what happened to Daniels, but so far Newton police have revealed very little about their investigation into her death.

I know who he is. I feel he had nothing to do with her murder. He is extremely upset.

I also know him well. He would be one of the last people I would ever believe capable of doing something like this. He is a very good person.

I think they are talking about the woman that found MD, the friend last with her that day, and her boyfriend. They are not to be sleuthed unless named by LE as suspects, which they have not been and are also victims.

Car repair man is fair game.

My interpretation is that he's suggesting Maggie knew her killer, hence, "someone she must've known".

It has been my observation that often when LE is very quiet regarding details, they have someone in mind as a POI/suspect and are merely gathering enough evidence for an arrest. If that is not true with this case, then I agree, they need to alert the public to be more diligent regarding personal safety.

MOO

Agree, and sure hope they have someone in their sights....
Still, don't see why LE can't give a hint one way or the other....

In the murder of Karen Swift, Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box came out and said:
"If this individual was on the run or if we felt that other persons were in immediate danger, we would have already named this person as a suspect,"

The Walmart surveillance video shows Maggie in pink shorts and a t-shirt. The maintenance worker says around noon the same day she was wearing black sweat pants? If it was hot enough to be wearing shorts why at mid-day is she in clothing that one would wear in much cooler weather? Something doesn't make sense. Perhaps he is mistaken as to when he saw her?

My opinion is this wasn't a random crime. Someone knew she left the door unlocked and in my opinion, it could be a former student, or someone who wanted to exact revenge against "the teacher". Curious if LE is checking all the students (and their parents) from this past year. Also not seeing in the news articles if anything was missing from her apartment.

I live in Charlotte and any given day you will see 100s of girls and women in black workout pants. Some are tighter/longer/shorter than others (yoga pants, spandex, cotton) but it's pretty much "normal" around here. I don't find it odd but I assume she changed with the heat of the day or if she got her workout/run in earlier or later in the day. JMO but not odd at all around here.

Also, as PP mentioned about the repair shop, IMO that is the "smoking gun" to this case. Who tried to pick up her car the morning she was found dead? How long was it there (how did she get to Wal-Mart the day before) AND lastly have they checked out the employees of the repair shop? I have always heard horror stories of the car repair guys finding out your address and robbing you (I always thought it was an urban legend type thing) but totally makes sense. The other part of me wonders if the repair shop guys already knew sweet Maggie since it's a small town and she was teacher of the year previously. Most likely the latter. The repair shop interview says the cops are looking for nearby surveillance tapes and asking a lot about the man who tried to pick up her car. Very very strange.

Just thinking out-loud; allot of possibilities, especially if she was sexually assaulted, which I tend to think she was since most cases I've followed involving murder of an attractive, young woman do.

Being home for the summer, also jogging would increase her exposure to cretins on the prowl around where she lived, places she visited, jogged, etc.

Be interesting to know if any reported attempts of women being approached, annoyed or accosted in and around areas she frequented in weeks before.

Also, counseling work might create another exposure - someone developing an unhealthy interest in her... any reports of that...

Then again, being home during the summer might get boring; perhaps more time to pursue something online...

I agree that tons of girls/women wear workout/pajama type clothing. Who knows what the maintenance worker considers "sweatpants" anyways. It could just have been yoga pants, which to me could be cold or warm weather, especially if worn inside. The maintenance worker's age/culture could play into how he/she described clothing. My dad is older, and I know he wouldn't know the difference between leggings, yoga pants, sweatpants.

BBM That was one of the 1st thoughts when I heard her story. I think it's natural to wonder about a student she mentored. I feel like everyone loved her so much it's a stretch to believe but obviously we have read much worse on this board. Poor Maggie, she was just so sweet. They say beauty is only skin deep but she was truly a beautiful soul from everything I have read, shame the person who murdered her couldn't have picked another predator and killed them instead :(

Agree, and I wear them also. My concern was her changing out of shorts into them as the day got hotter, and the only concern I had was that the maintenance man may have mistaken which day it was he saw her.

On to the auto repair, I also agree, it would be the first place to look. There are a lot of less-than-ethical employees at some of these repair shops and the individual who allegedly tried to pick up her car that morning is of great interest. Hopefully LE has identified him by now. Or it may be nothing at all. I have a friend who takes my car in for maintenance/repairs as he is less likely to get "ripped off" than I am.

Good point, Panthera. I always get my husband to take the car in for exactly the same reason.

Among social media messages investigators are looking at is a Tweet sent from Daniels’ Twitter account on Aug. 13, 2013. Daniels tweeted a screenshot of a text message sent to her by an unidentified friend, via Daniels’ Twitter account.
Part of the text message read, “Be careful with your neighbor you mentioned. I would really encourage you to think about a self defense class and to give serious consideration to other measures to protect yourself.”
