According to the Charlotte Observer:

[h=1]Suspect arrested in slaying of Newton high school counselor[/h]

from your link:

''In 2010, he was arrested in Mecklenburg County and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree rape, assault by strangulation, burglary and kidnapping. The charges were all dismissed several months after his arrest.

In 2012, he was again arrested in Mecklenburg and charged with robbery, assault by strangulation and second-degree rape. The charges were dismissed two months after his arrest.

It wasn’t clear Saturday why those cases were dismissed. Detailed Mecklenburg court records are not available on weekends, when the courthouse is closed.''

did something happen to the victims before trial???

I really hope that this time will be the last time. I hope that the previous victims will find courage to speak out this time.

He could have got away - but he didn't - they have him - and that's the best news possible.
Brilliant work LE. You scared us there for a moment though ;)

Most definitely would like to know why the charges in both of these cases were dismissed. Also very curious exactly what he will be charged with regarding Maggie...

It kind of makes me wonder if he might have friends in high places. I hope I'm wrong. But, those are serious charges he faced. He should have been off the streets long ago.

I hope that some young cub reporters are doing a lot of digging this weekend to determine why previous charges were dismissed and what exactly happened to the victims as a result of those charges being dismissed.

It will be disturbing if the victims 'vanished' before trial. (MOO)

I have often wondered what the ‘very serious harm’ was that could have been caused if more info was released earlier.

Damage to the investigation?
Damage to other people?
Is he a little unbalanced? (Not that I think a person who rapes and allegedly murders is balanced.)

I just found it an unusual statement to make, as they don’t seem to care about releasing early info and the harm it may cause in many other cases.

“Very serious harm could result in releasing any information prematurely,” Newton police said.
