GUILTY NC - Maggie Daniels, 31, murdered in her Newton apartment, 27 June 2014

Maybe the friend who made the 911 call told her he and whoever would go pick up her car and bring it to her Saturday morning. They could have worked out a deal, I don't know. So her friend picks up the car and drives the car to her Sat morning and that's why he's there and able to make the 911 call. Just a theory since it's never been confirmed Odom was the one who wanted her car and it makes no sense to me as to why he would want to take it back to the appt. It would seem that would only connect him further to the crime.
Agree. It makes no sense for Odom to pick up the car AND return it to her apartment.

I'm glad he was all scratched up. That means Maggie will have his DNA under her nails.

Yes! Along with the selfie he took showing he was scratched up. Would think they found her DNA in his apt, and his DNA, maybe hair in hers - all good! We don't often get a case with this amount of good evidence.

If a struggle ensued inside Maggie's apartment, no doubt in my mind some of his hair (dreadlocks) were left behind. The evidence against him, thanks to forensic science, appears to be insurmountable.

LE found a dreadlock in his apartment in a box. (And a bald patch on his person). I think Maggie pulled it off but he took it with him. I think they were extensions anyway and he was going to get it reattached later. Still there maybe fragments of his hair in Maggie's apartment.

See post 585 for links about hair/warrants for further details.

Agree, and I never assumed the dreadlocks were his own hair, however, his hair would be mixed in with them especially toward the scalp. Even without any of his natural hair pulled out, a match could be made through forensics of the artificial hair since he still is wearing dreadlocks. In addition, his hairstyle is somewhat unique, and chances are he was the only person inside Maggie's apartment with such.

According to his Twitter he followed her, and then per this screen grab she followed him. I don't have Twitter to see if her following shows she actually did follow him though

Isn't that the thing with twitter? Follow me and I'll follow you? I don't use twitter so I'm less familiar but I always hear this on the radio. Everyone is always trying to increase their followers. It's not like FB where you just add friends you know. So I don't think because she followed him that that means she knew him. Jmo

As far as I can see she did not followed him. The quoted screen cap only shows he began to follow Maggie, nothing else.
IMO

Actually, I recommend to everybody who still thinks Maggie followed the accused on twitter to go to HER twitter page called @Magsssd and read there the list of people Maggie herself followed. It's very easy to do. He is not in there.
It's also a nice experience, because in the lists there are people who are still having their picture changed to one of Maggie's.

She didn't follow him! That has been repeated over and over on this forum... He followed her! She never even responded to the tweet he sent her.

He was obsessed with her.

Wonder about the kidnapping angle

I'm wondering the same. I suppose it must be something like in that state preventing someone from leaving from a place/situation warrants a kidnapping charge too. We will see. I'm intrigued.

Kidnapping..."Any person who shall unlawfully confine, restrain, or remove from one place to another, any other person 16 years of age or over without the consent of such person"

I don't pretend to know much about the laws of this state, but I'm wondering if because he strangled her and probably kept her from escaping/leaving her appt, it would fall under kidnapping. I believe you're right, Orgona.

A search warrant obtained on Monday shows the struggle took place inside Daniels' apartment in Newton. The warrants mention a patch of missing hair near Odom's scalp.

The search warrant also showed that officers noticed a scratch on the suspect's face just a few days after Daniels was found murdered.

A detailed search of data in Odom's phone revealed that he had taken a "selfie" photograph that could have implications in the case.

"The day that Daniels body was discovered," says Chief Donald Brown, "Odom had taken a selfie picture of himself that showed scratches on his face."

I was wondering what a 'first degree sexual offense' was in North Carolina (warning - it's graphic):

A first degree forcible sex offense is when a person engages in a sexual act with another by force and against the will of the other person with one of three aggravating factors. A sex offense occurs when the accused engages in a sexual act other than vaginal intercourse by force and against the will of the other person. Vaginal intercourse by force and against the will of the other person usually falls under a rape statute. Examples of a sex offense could include oral penetration or digital penetration of the other person’s genitalia. “Force” refers to the manner in which the other person is made to engage in a sexual act against his or her will, not the sexual act itself. Actual, physical force is usually not required, and it can be sufficient to find a person guilty if the other person is forced by threat, fear, or duress. Evidence of physical resistance is not necessary to prove the sexual act was against the will of the other person. If the sexual act is begun consensually and the other person withdraws consent, no sex offense may have occurred.

The forcible sexual act against the other person’s will becomes a first degree sex offense generally under three sets of circumstances. First, when the accused uses a dangerous weapon during the commission of a sexual offense, such as forcing the other person to engage in the sexual act with a firearm. Second, if the accused inflicts serious injury upon the other person while committing the sex offense, in many states it will rise to the level of a first degree sex offense. When the sex offense is aided by one or more individuals, that, too, is often elevated to a first degree sex offense. The specific circumstances leading to first degree forcible sex offense may vary from state to state.
