Mecklenburg County jail records show Sarah Weber, 28, is charged with one felony count of neglect of a child causing serious physical injuries.

Sarah Weber, 28, reportedly told police that the little girl hadn’t eaten solid food for about six months and had diarrhea for at least a month. An arrest warrant says that Weber did not seek medical help for the girl in that time.

Weber is being held in jail under a $25,000 bond. Her first court appearance has been scheduled for Monday afternoon.

I can't view the last link and wonder why this woman had her daughter on a liquid diet and where were any other relatives? (Father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.)

Did she isolate herself and daughter? Does she have mental health issues or learning disabilities? What is the whole story?

Working with little kids, I am going to assume milk of some kind. Cheap liquid (cows milk in comparison to formula) and somewhat sustainable (although definitely not as a full meal for any child over 12 months). Poor kiddo, hunger pains are awful for an adult I cannot imagine for a baby.

A 4 yo needs more than formula IMO. And from the way they worded it (below)... it sounds like there might have been other children in the house from the wording "was the one affected". What were the others eating? (if there were others)

That poor kid. ;( Mom seems to have the attitude "if she doesn't eat, it's not MY fault or MY problem".

If the child had ARFID, which is like picky eating on steroids, I was thinking that maybe the child was living on smoothies or Pediasure, but it doesn't sound like that's the case here. Besides, a child who has ARFID needs feeding therapy and must be closely medically monitored.

I feel like this child was singled out and it wasn't a matter of it's cheaper to just allow her milk rather than solids. There were other children in that household. But they were eating solids apparently. Why was THIS child alone denied food?

I suspect she was sick, but Mom didn't realize it. She figured she was being stubborn and ornery, and she didn't look any further. I think a lot of people see eating disorders as behavior problems, and don't recognize their responsibility to seek professional help; rather they take the "old school" stance of "the kid will eat when she's hungry enough" right past all the signs of a pending crises.

I was thinking about this issue, trying to figure out WHY this attitude seems to be exist and spread amongst people who really should know better. I was up to my elbows in kitchen chores when it dawned on me: we can blame George Carlin (although HE got the bug from somewhere before). His inability to feel sorry for "rich girls who refuse to eat" should not be relatable to parents, but...well...these crimes prove he's not alone.
