9-month-old found dead in Catawba County, mom charged with murder

The baby was found dead in the woman's home on July 12.

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Section House Road around 5 a.m. on Friday, July 12. When deputies arrived, they found 39-year-old Megan Stack Sattizahn walking in the area. Deputies claimed that Sattizahn appeared disoriented before leading them to her home on Tanglewood Drive.

Questioned near her residence, Sattizahn allegedly interrupted deputies, telling them: "Everyone come in, the baby is dead," according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by PEOPLE.

"What?" one of the investigators asked.

"The baby looks dead," she allegedly responded.

Going inside, deputies found her 9-month old daughter, Samantha Sattizahn, dead inside.

Per the affidavit of probable cause, Sattizahn allegedly told deputies that she had performed a “mercy killing,” on her daughter, telling them she did it because "God told her to."
