Police and family members are looking for Nancy Brown, 79, who has not been seen since Dec. 9 when she wandered off from her north Charlotte home.

“Now she forgets a lot of things,” Ronald Brown said. “My father has passed, and she forgets who he was, and sometimes she forgets that I’m her son.”

Nancy Brown spent most of her life in Brooklyn, New York. A few years ago, her family moved her to Charlotte so they could take care of her.

They are now worried that she may have forgotten that Charlotte is her new home and caught a bus to return to New York.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department put out advisories to cities along her possible bus route, including Wilmington, Raleigh, Washington, New York City, and Richmond, Virginia.

“I’m like, how are you eating? Where are you sleeping?” her daughter said. “How are you going to the bathroom? Like simple things. Like, are you on the road or in the woods? Where are you?”

The disappearance has been tough on the family. Nancy Brown has an older sister. They are the last two children of seven and used to talk every day.
“I can’t tell this 81-year-old lady, ‘Your sister is missing,’” Linata Brown said. “That would devastate her. I don’t know how she would react.”

The family and police are asking for the public’s help. They think she could be in one of the cities along the route to New York, including Wilmington, Raleigh, Richmond, Washington, D.C. and New York City.

I hope all the hospitals and shelters are being checked for this dear lady and she turns up safe, if a little worse for the wear.

Very sad news. Her body was found in a creek in Charlotte, so she didn't take a bus after all.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte firefighters recovered the body of a 79-year-old woman from New York who was reported last month in north Charlotte Monday afternoon, officials confirmed.

The Charlotte Fire Department said its crews were assisting Charlotte-Mecklenburg police in a dive recovery in a creek or pond along Hucks Road Monday afternoon. WCNC Charlotte saw a coroner's van parked in the area as crews were clearing the scene.
