NC - Restaurant owner charged with murdering 2 people by putting poison in their drinks - Hendersonville, arrested 16 Jan 2026

Fish and chips is very European in origin. Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish people escaping the inquisition are thought to be the original creators of the dish.

Keeping to this case, a few days ago I found a couple of reviews of her public house. I don't think the place was open long. The food got "eh" reviews. Not super terrible but definitely not big praise. I'll say IMO because I can't find the reviews again. There were not many.

Good find.

I think we'll find a mess of financial problems in her past.

Everything about this woman seems chaotic. I wonder what her daughters' childhoods were like...

Pierogi as a pub grub? Maybe let's start with saying we do not have an equivalent of public houses, as known in UK, in Poland and when still had inns and taverns the time consuming pierogi was not an usual dish in there. It changed after the second world war when the milk bars appeared.
Also, Brits did not take the idea of a public house turning it into something something, they invented them. Fish and chips is a typically British dish, not all European. And Schweinskäse. Dear God. Last time I checked it was a kind of pate, nor a sausage cheese dip!

That woman is not German, she did not spend any time in Germany or anywhere in Europe, I can assure you. And I am pretty sure she is as much a member of that beermaker family as I am (hint: I have no relation to them).

Edit: the cheese dip shocked me so much I forgot to mention I do not know any variant of the name Gudrun with umlaut u - like Güdrun.

Wondering how much "research" she did on any of this?
Just SMH -- another odd one here!

And many thanks, Hexe, for the info. :-)

Wait a minute ... she is 52 years old and has a 3 year old?? and a 9 year old?
Have we heard anything from her current man?

Murder defendant is the mother of two alleged poisoning victims

From the article:

Riddle says Casper-Leinenkugel now has two more children with a man she currently lives with.
“She has a little boy about 9, and the little girl looked to be about 3,” she said of the woman’s two younger children. “The last time I saw them was at the funeral (of Leela Livis).

Now I'm second guessing that reporting. Apparently her name is Gudrun Linda Jean Casper-Leinenkugel and I'm skeptical that is her given name. I wonder if Linda Jean Casper somewhere along the line became Gudrun Leinenkugel to sound more German to go along with her Public House? IDK if that is crazy on my part (or hers!).

Speculation, at this point.

I think it is very plausible.

That's what I'm thinking too.

Someone wake up the North Carolina press. This has potential to be a hot story for the first to break it.

This was posted upthread, but I wanted to note that the Hendersonville Lightning is a local NC paper!

In this video it's suggested that as deputies were investigating the poisonings they uncovered evidence that she was responsible for the 2007 house fire murder, and they're now investigating whether she played a part in other deaths.
I wonder if her own diary entries might have been her undoing here?

She looks very masculine in this photo. It's interesting that she supposedly was raised in a poly family and was also in poly relationships. It kind helps me understand her poisoning her two daughters---it's like her connections or relationships are diluted somewhat. everything is kind of casual?

It's not how poly relationships usually work. And I would be very careful with any of her claims, as she seems to be consummate liar (being part German? Living in Europe? Please).

IMO, of course.

I do have a good friend who is 'poly' as she calls it. She and her longtime partner have been in a parade of relationships ,multiple versions, over the years ---but I guess they don't always work that way. I have seen a few children of theirs get punted around to other homes over the years because there are inconsistent and confusing parental equations at times----Hard to explain but it has been kind of heartbreaking ...

Oh, you are right about that. I think she calls herself part of the Beer making family just to sound like she might be wealthy, but it is bogus, imo. Somewhere she noticed that a Caspar married into the family so she thought she could hop on the train using that name connection.
IMO, of course.

As to the wine served on Thanksgiving 2025, my personal theory is that she was pouring the wine out of sight of her guests. There were 12 guests. Envision them all sitting around the table in the dining room. Out in her kitchen, Gudrun has two opened bottles of wine -- ready to pour. One bottle contains poison -- the second does not. From the kitchen, Gudrun proceeds to pour out the wine into individual glasses. First, she pours the poisoned wine for those she intends to poison. She goes to the dining room and serves those glasses first. She then returns to the kitchen to pour the glasses for those she does not intend to poison. She brings those (untainted) glasses into the dining room and serves the "lucky ones". Not that difficult to pull off. (IMO!)
Maybe the glasses were colour-coded 😅 IYKYK

It's paywalled so I can't tell if they have expanded their coverage beyond the initial reporting. This story has so many facets. Are they continuing to cover? This is a local reporter's big break, if you ask me, if they are out front with reporting.

If that newspaper delves in, please keep us updated. I'm behind a paywall.
