The evidence they have found appears to be bones, according to the sheriff.

Byrd is under arrest for an outstanding identity theft warrant.
The evidence they found on the side of the road appears to be bones, according to the sheriff.

According to some news outlets, the evidence is related to the missing women, and according to others, it's still unclear.

This article states that the remains found in Mitchell County are tied to the missing women. I read earlier today that they found the remains based on a tip from somebody. I wonder if Byrd was the tipster or if somebody else gave them information on both where to find the remains and how to find Byrd. http://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/crime/2015/11/04/man-missing-persons-case-custody/75173530/

"The investigation has been tied to Riddle's disappearance as well as the disappearance of Lisa Ann Robbins, 49, who was reported missing from her residence near Bakersville on Oct. 23."

"It looks as if it’s tied in together," Street said of the discovery of human remains.

There's another woman who went missing roughly the same time, in a close by county. She has a thread here: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?293682-NC-Lisa-Ann-Robbins-49-Bakersfield-3-Oct-2015
It's Bakersville, NC, by the way, not Bakersfield. I have seen nothing where the two disappearances are related at this point, but I've got a weird feeling.

Great call!

And you can hardly blame them since how often does this ever happen there, but WLOS had a headline about
'warrant issued following the remains found in case
e of two missing women.'

I clicked on it assuming it was about Tatianna and Alex and then saw 'arrest' mentioned and was like wait, wait, wait! Pierre's already in jail.

Now often you have two sets of missing women who are linked happen basically simultaneously in the same state! :scared:

According to the Mitchell County Sheriff, if it goes the way they think it's going to, it would be the first double homicide he's seen in the county, and he's been there 33 years. So, yeah, two sets of women at the same time within an hour's drive of each other is remarkable. They haven't found Sarah yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her.

Thanks for the update BlkMtnGirl. Using Sarah's EBT card, obviously he is not very bright. It sounds like they know the remains found yesterday are Lisa. Does anybody know where Byrd's property that they are searching is located?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about using her card. The property is in Mitchell County, according to this article.

For some reason, I'm thinking there are two properties, but I can't find anything to support that. Coincidentally, about a half-hour ago, we drove by the area where Byrd was captured yesterday. There was a state trooper parked on the side of the road. He drove a hundred feet, jumped out and started toward the river bank like he was searching for something. Wonder what?

Update: ah, here it is. Byrd is affiliated with two residences on Bad Creek Road.

New warrants released. From the story:
"The warrant also shows Riddle was friends with Byrd's ex-wife Annette until recently, when Riddle threatened to report Annette to the NC Department of Social Services.

Annette told authorities she asked her ex-husband to scare Riddle out of reporting her. Later, she said Byrd admitting to 'discharging a firearm near her head to get the point across.' "

Do they have any leads on where they may find (Sarah) Denise Riddle's body? I would sure like to see them find her. What a mess.

ETA: I see that the bone fragments they found may belong to Riddle. I misunderstood...thought these were Lisa Robbins'. So they think he burned the body...truly disgusting man to kill 2 women. He needs to be put away for a LOOONNG time!

Cecil Scott Byrd... is charged with killing Sarah Denise Riddle, 45, of Marion, and Lisa Ann Robbins, 49, of Deep Gap. Both women were reported missing last fall.

Prosecutors with the District Attorney’s office announced their intention to seek the death penalty in Superior Court April 6. A Grand Jury indicted Byrd on the murder charges Feb. 22...

Search warrants show that during an interview with police last fall, Byrd admitted to killing Riddle at his residence and burning her remains. Authorities later discovered bone fragments at Byrd’s residence and off the side of Hwy. 226 near Iron Mountain. The remains have yet to be identified... They are being examined at FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia.
