Thanks, ima for the jury count! I think that's pretty darn good considering the length of time this case has been dangling out there, and the wide reporting of this case, at least in Cumberland and many other counties in NC. And it did go farther than that -- Shaquille O'Neal certainly found out about it, bless his generous heart.

This will be a special hardship on the jurors, IMO, just because of what happened to Shaniya, and why she was delivered to her rapist and murderer. Now I will have to say prayers for the jurors, too. Can you imagine what they will see & hear?! Oh, my.

My sad little poetic wail was certainly not directed at you -- you're the one who is trying to get a handle on it for us. It's so hard to follow when we receive news from reporter at 10:00am, and another at 12:30 pm and another at 4:00pm. And we're patient -- we'll wait -- as long as the correct 12 + alts are the right ones, as Kimberlyd said. Thanks so much for taking the time to help us all out on the jury selection process.




Here's to justice for Shaniya and let this never happen again.

Jury selection resumes Monday in the trial of Mario McNeill. When court ended for the week on Friday, nine jurors had been seated.
The judge in the case says about 15 or 16 jurors will likely be picked, including three alternates.

Three more jurors were excused Monday morning after extensive questioning in the Shaniya Davis murder trial.
Nine jurors - seven women and two men - are seated so far, a week after the proceedings began. McNeill is accused of raping and killing the 5-year-old girl in November 2009. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

So do I, Salem. On live stream, I would not be able to leave it -- I would have to go to the store, buy lotsa Pepsi, Kleenex, chocolate, good frozen pizza, make some sandwiches, and consider wearing Depends. Oh, and get a script for Valium if I could think of a better reason than the real one....

It would be prolly the toughest trial I've ever seen, and I think many of us would agree. I hope the prosecutor is as outraged about it as we are -- how could he not be? I think it will be well-reported by several news & TV sources, so we should be able to get updates fairly quickly and from different sources, and, as many of us hope, there should be some locals reporting back to us here.

Jury selection is going better than I expected. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Jury selection has almost wrapped in the Shaniya Davis murder trial.
The 12 jurors were selected Tuesday and officials worked to seat three or four alternates Wednesday.

Shaniya's horrible death is the hardest case I've followed. Actually, most of them are horrible and hard but Shaniya's haunts me it seems due to how sick it is. She was just a little innocent girl. The pictures of him holding her at the motel haunt me the most. It's just sick how she died. No mercy for either of them who let this happen. None.

Any juror selected that doesn't know about Shaniya's death might also have the facts linger for a while too. Prayers for swifter damn justice & for the jurors who make it happen. May they not have the horrible facts haunt them like it did some of us following when they found her.

RIP Shaniya, you will be heard & remembered forever.

Now get this trial over with!

Alternate jurors still needed for Mario McNeill murder trial
The first alternate juror was seated Wednesday in the Mario McNeill capital murder trial in Cumberland County Superior Court.
The trial's 12-member jury was completed Tuesday. Plans are to select three or four alternates to stand ready to join the panel should any of the original dozen drop out over the seven weeks that the trial is expected to run.
Judge Jim Ammons anticipates having the additional jurors selected by the end of the week.
