Why aren't these people screaming out loud about what was done to this little angel?

I could be wrong here but... it seems to me we only see them when there is a Caucasian suspected of murder or wrong doing against African-American victims.

OT - I do not say this to come across as believing they are racist. However, growing up Chicago we saw how much violence occurred on our streets. Never once saw either when all the reports were about Cabrini-Green and the gang violence there. The only time we saw either was when there was a Caucasian suspect. It always saddened me the influence and power that could have supported for change for all African-Americans, yet, they only seemed to be outraged when a Caucasian was the suspect.

One thing about his horrible case, it sure is bringing the sex slave business into the light. I don't consider myself a very naive person but I had NO CLUE this stuff happened here in America with children. I was definitely clueless on that one.

I know I am really far behind but just had to say I did not know about this either and am stunned and shocked from reading about this case.

I have thought about this, and I believe, only speculating, that she knew Shaniya was supposed to be murdered when she was taken. I believe that is why she was taken. I think she had been prostituting her daughter all along those 3 weeks or whatever, and I think that MAM was supposed to kill her to get rid of her, I think that the stop at that hotel was a part f his (payment).

OMG ...I hadn't considered that possibility but you may be on to something here. Didn't we hear that dad was coming back in town? Maybe mom panicked because she knew Shaniya would tell dad what had been happening to her. But good grief, why wouldn't that occur to mom in the first place, that Shaniya would eventually be able to tell dad at some point. Unless she was so drug-hazed she never thought about that until it had already started and then it was too late.

I'll take a stab at this. To answer Nurse's question - I think the presser was delayed to get info from the Med. Examiner and clarify COD. Then I think charges will be upgraded and the presser will happen.

I am sure that MAM's attorney has been advising him all along to tell where the child was and to cooperate to a certain extent. Watching this play out, I'm thinking MAM's attorney is advising him to be cooperative for a better plea deal. I don't think this attorney wants to take this case to court if it can be avoided. He will plea MAM out, because he knows what MAM has done and he knows the dude does not stand a chance in hell.

As for AD - I just hope she chokes. She doesn't have an attorney yet, but will soon. The taxpayers of NC will get to pay for it. She deserves a fair trial (like hell) but I'm willing to bet they will try to plead her out also. I don't see this case going to court unless AD does try to say she is innocent and her boyfriend made her do it.

I'm wondering if "selling" isn't "selling" in the sense of a change of...ownership...(blech) and instead in terms of prostitution. I truly don't believe AD was selling Shaniya. I think she was selling her body. It's despicable and disturbing, but I think the human trafficking charge has people picturing this crime as little Shaniya getting sold into a sex ring.

My theory is that MAM is a straight-up sick pedophile. Drug-addled and looking for money, Antoinette decides that since she can't sell herself pregnant, then Shaniya is an asset. It's always been bizarre to me that AD would have moved her to the couch, if it indeed happened. I think it's like a previous poster said--Shaniya was there for the pick up and bonus! He wouldn't even have to wake AD up. Probably better not to think about it and not mess up her sleep with guilt.

I don't believe the intent was to molest Shaniya there. There were potential witnesses in that trailer. Better to get her out of the house, and the disgusting perv decides to take her to a hotel like Johns often do. Nevermind that she's five.

Shaniya was probably traumatized, screaming, verbal, whatever, and with his urges fulfilled he saw her as a risk. She was drawing attention and she would just tell someone later. Whether AD just never thought about the scenario or didn't care, I don't know. Maybe she told him to bring her back when he was through. Maybe this plan was hatched when she was out of her mind with drugs. But her appearance in court just didn't give me the vibe of someone who just never thought this could happen.

I bet she pimped her out for drugs, and that was quite an expensive high. Dead little girl and prison. I don't think she was gone enough to not know this was a potentiality, though. I think she had the girl for three weeks, didn't form a bond, saw her as expendable (another child and one on the way) and maybe held some resentment toward dad.

Either way, I don't think this was ever supposed to be a sale. I don't think MAM was an intermediary. I think he was the john, AD was the pimp, and Shaniya was the commodity.

I do not agree; there are lots of pregnant women out there prostituting themselves, and she is not even showing.

And I can not imagine a frightened child screaming at anyone at all.

If she was pimping her that too is a sale: she just kept on reselling her to different animals.

I do not know what did happen, but I do not see this mom stopping to prostitute herself, or that pimping is not selling.

I think she fulfilled MAM's urges and things got messy. He couldn't trust her not to talk, she was probably frightened and crying and yelling, and he killed her to shut her up. In the short and long terms. I don't think it was the media coverage. I'd bet money they were pretty oblivious to the coverage.

With due respect, I don't think you read my entire post. I never said it wasn't selling. I never said Shaniya was screaming at anyone, and many women won't sell themselves while pregnant. It's not about showing or not. It's more psychological. That was more me just typing out loud. I just don't want you to say I'm somehow excusing Shaniya "just" being pimped out, because that's an inaccurate read on my post.

I don't know where LE got the information in order to bring forth those charges.

The only place I heard it was from the charges that LE brought forth.

The way I took it was the Aunt of Shaniya... AD's sister. She said she cheered with her (with the sister).

AA- MAM's girlfriend (they have a baby together)
BD- sister to AD, had baby with AA's brother, may have dated MAM,
AD- the mom, girlfriend of Coe

IMHO this would explain that there would have been no way that Shaniya could have been returned to her Father, or the chance taken that Shaniya would have told her Father what was happening to her.

I agree BTW that this probably was happening from the time Shaniya got there.

My husband is from Sanford and his family lives there still. He said last night that this Comfort Suites is brand new. Most of the motels in Sanford are much older, and without cameras. Sanford is a small town, and much of it is run down and seedy. There aren't many newer motels in that town, maybe one or two at most. The particular area where this motel is, is quite run down and older. And it is across the street from the high school my husband attended. It is not an upscale area. This information tells me someone else was involved in addition to the momster and MAM. It doesn't make much sense to pick out a brand spanking new motel that really stands out in that area to do something like this. There are many inconspicuous, dark, seedy motels in that area.
