It's my understanding that the young girl beside him is Carey's daughter.......his neice.

I don't know how to say this without offending someone, but there were two very distinct accents between a couple of the interviews. I think the difference could be construed as him having different emotional control during different interviews.

I don't think this is offensive as I've lived in the south my whole life. One accent was lightly southern. The other accent seemed to be in line with some areas of a southern minority population. See? It almost sounds more offensive to hedge around it. Surely it's not some big biased, secret thing that white and black people often speak with different accents in some areas. I lived in that area. I had many black friends. I don't sound like my black friends. They don't sound like me. Why would that be wrong to say? They'd be first to say they're glad they don't sound like me, LOL!

I find that sometimes my "accent" changes when I'm around different people. I'll soften my 'a's if I'm around a person from GB. I draw out my 'o's a bit if I talk to someone from Canada while. Someone who spends a lot of time around people of different backgrounds might end up sounding more like them.

I am one of those people who will slide into an accent or manner of speaking very quickly and without realizing. My grandfather was from Waycross GA and his folks speak in a very thick southern drawl. When I was a child and they would visit IL I would within minutes begin mirroring their accent. It wasn't a mocking sort of thing, I was quite literally unaware I was even doing it. When it was pointed out to me I could NOT stop. Some just have a certian fluidity to their speech patterns that directs them to fall into the rythm of the conversations around them.

We look through a peephole at the life of a man who made decisions that have had terrible, heartbreaking consequences. If we could see through a huge bay window, we might understand his reasoning more. Not to say there would not still be poor decisions, but there could be extenuating circumstances.

We do not know all the particulars of the marriage, death of his wife, custody battles, and personal battles he may have gone through in the last 20 years. We do not know what past demons he may have had to overcome, personally and spiritually, to get where he is now.

I would hate for someone to take one small period of time in my evolution and place it under a microscope to be exposed for everyone to judge. I am a product today of all of my experiences, both good and bad, and all that I have learned from them. I believe that is true of all of us, including BL. Sometimes we make mistakes that hurt others, and all of the could have, should haves change nothing. All we can do is pray that we are forgiven and learn from the mistake. Is it enough? No, in some cases, it is not. It's just all that we have left.

I make no judgement on this man. I know he is in his own kind of hell right now, and he will never be the same. Shaniya is safe . Now let's get those who purposefully and with complete awareness caused this child suffering and death.

I think it is totally irresponsible and ridiculous the way this dear child was sent into this sewage dump

One thing that struck me from the start was the reaction of LOCALS on the wral blog/comments....Sleepy Hollow is the worst, drug infested area ...it seems all the locals associate the name with drugs, crime

I think a lot of people move kids around out of convenience....they don't think...they assume it will be ok...maybe this sad story can help others to not do the same??

sorry...I have my own (logical) mind

and it tells me that this dear little girl's death could have so easily been prevented

"give her a chance"...well how about going in that trailer and seeing what sort of men/felons were there?? what about just some "visits" or supervised visits?? No...he sent her there

And this goes for other people who let kids stay overnight at a friends house...or single moms who just hook up with a guy and don't know his background...the "it'll be ok" attitude..is often just a selfish way of doing what they feel like doing and to h//lll with the kids

IMHO he needs to go off and grieve and not set up a foundation
what does he hope to do with that?

I'd love to see the phone records between BL and momster. How often before and after he sent Shaniya to live with her did they talk? Did he ever talk to Shaniya from when she was put there til her death? Did Aunt Carey or anyone from BL's family talk to her or see her? Especially after momster told Aunt Carey that she would never see Shaniya again! That just drives me crazy!

I guess I just wonder if Shaniya thought she had been abandoned by all of those she loved. Did she think the fight with her cousins caused to to be banished? Was she told by momster that daddy and Aunt Carey didn't want her? It was her fault that she now had to live in hell?? She was only 5....Bless her heart....I, right now, despise every adult that could have saved her. Hopefully, we'll find out that dad and Aunt Carey and TA and the ex in-laws were trying to get her back....

Stated repeatedly that she is Carey's daughter.
Someone please find that link, I'm so sick of rehashing.

Well I asked that last night and I must have missed your answer.

IMO, the reason why so many of us are upset with the father is:
IF he would of kept her this whole thing would never of happened.
BL had plenty of friends and relatives willing to help.
He had money for babysitters.
BL KNEW what the momster was like and who she befriended.
I checked out a family getting a stray puppy when I gave it away!
I didn't want it to go for pitbull training!

Of course she had to say she looked...she knew who had Shaniya and exactly what he was doing to her...MOO.
There are enough holes in her story to drive a semi through.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Barbara has installed four surveillance cameras. Barbara says that after Shaniya was missing, you can see on the surveillance tape the family coming out and actually looking around, as if they`re looking for a child at that point.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIP.../11/ng.01.html

Only outside after the call.

I don't see anywhere that it says after the 911 call, just after Shaniya was missing. I didn't watch the show (can barely stand NG). Is there a missing word(s) from the transcript?

Hello group.long time lurker not often poster here........ What greatly bothers me are the ones who are choosing to place blame on this father. I seriously doubt that any one of us has been a perfect parent.....no matter how hard we try. That being said, I also seriously think that neither the father nor the aunt seen any of this coming. I would venture to guess that when the Aunt dropped her off.....she wasn't allowed inside and this was probably the general rule. the "mom" came outside and got her. With that being said.......even if she had been allowed inside, the Aunt had no rights. I honestly believe that everyone needs to back off dad on this one. How would any one of us feel being in his shoes? "Mom" had always been satisfied with having Shaniya for a couple of days once a month or whatever......who seen any of this coming? How could they? Who would ever assume that any Mother would put their child in harms way....intentionally! As far as his "dialect" what does it matter? I would certainly hope that if I were in his shoes, people would find, not the way I talk but my actions at that timeas who I am... not how I speak.

Dad might have made the decision to let Shaniya go there ( but I also think he had no choice, if he let Mom have her once per month..."Mom" never made any demands to keep her) you can bet your last dollar Dad deeply regrets letting her go......Let's place the blame where it should be and not on a Dad who is clearly suffering.....

ok back to Kims flying saucer to lurk

I think this is just unreal that a little girl could have her whole world changed so quickly...to go from princess to abused remains...in a matter of weeks...
while people who loved her were ok on the other side of town

I find it unreal that they didn't check this place out..I have posted pictures of the Sleepy Hollow....the trailer looked like a total dump..the dad's house is lovely....and more than looks..what about felon men living there??

I will keep asking questions such as "did anyone talk to Shaynia during those weeks she was there?"

Welcome, amf. Thank you for posting the link. I read that yesterday, then could not remember which site it was on. Such a sad decision to send Shaniya to AD's.

I have a couple of questions. Have you heard any local *talk* where the trial might be held? In your opinion, does one county have a better prosecutor than the other?

Thus far, no one has ANY clue whether it will be in Cumberland or Lee County. As far as having the best prosecutor, I can't remember Lee County ever having dealt with anything close to this type of magnitude. However, with Cumberland being a much larger/populated county and Fayetteville itself being a MUCH larger city than Sanford, my guess is Cumberland would have the better prosecutor. Again, absolute speculation on my part. My only hope is that all parties fry. Unfortunately, NC only has the needle....

If anyone has any specific questions about the area, I'd be glad to answer. As far as the area she was found, when I first moved to Sanford, I lived in the gated community near the location of the body. In fact, my house would have been less than a half-mile on the other side of Highway 87. It IS a very out of the way location. Granted, they haven't said if he has any connection to the area - whether that be personal familiarity, family, friend, etc. - but it could very well be absolute coincidence if MAM did leave her there. Quite literally you pass the entrance to the gated community and the next road just a few hundred feet up to your right is Walker Road and to be honest, I always thought it was a dead end road because it appears to go up into the woods. So if someone is driving along the road looking for a remote area off the beaten path, you might be inclined to turn there and was dumb luck she was left near the trash/deer carcasses. What I wonder about is when the time would have been when she was left there. Even though it's off the main road, there are still homes on that road. I certainly wouldn't want to carry a body into the woods in broad daylight.

The Colemans and Brad Lockhart have been on opposing sides in several lawsuits in recent years, most of which were dismissed. A case filed in 1998 resulted in the Colemans being granted custody of their grandchildren and child support in 2007, according to court files.

For those wondering about the child support.

By all definitions, a person isn't officially missing until they are reported.
So, it must have been after the call. IMO.

Oh so true...

many pet adoption places will check you out, and breeders

some even come to your home to check your yard, screen porch etc

when I have boarded pets I have checked out the pet hotel/grounds..checked others online..asked friends....interviewed
once even put 2 dogs in for a 1 night "trial stay"

One of the things that really strikes me is the "reputation" of Sleepy Hollow
people in Fayetteville "know" it as a place of drugs and crime and the police reports (30 this year vs 0 this year in the dads neighborhood) bear that out

Also from the start the dad's blatant misstatEment..."she had her own place"..DING DONG WRONG...SHE WAS REJECTED...HER SISTER HAD THE LEASE...SHE WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE THERE>.."she had been working for 6 months">..DING DONG WRONG....SHE HAD BEEN WORKING ABOUT 2 MONTHS, PART TIME

HOW CAN YOU LET YOUR CHILD GO TO LIVE SOMEWHERE WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT IT WILL BE LIKE??? I think many people do things to please themselves...maybe a new girlfriend....a fight with his sister....just wanted to not be bothered....unreal

and again...every place has it's bad areas...I could name a few where I live where I would be afraid to be at night....in this city, Fayetteville the locals....the posters on the wral site...all said how bad this Sleepy Hollow was

This is good information. Thank you.

Does the gated community have cameras at the entrance??

IMO, Nancy's transcript and Nancy's spoken words on the show are not always "what actually happened".

There was no "officially missing" mentioned. If my child is missing and I am out searching for him for an hour before calling LE, it doesn't make him any less missing before I make the call.

That's why I asked if there were missing words.
