I will continue to be optimistic. A new DA (fresh eyes and views) is just what this case needs. IMO

Shaniya, I've been thinking of you a lot lately, and wanting to remind you of the impact you had on my life.
Wondering if maybe we need an emotional support thread for those of us down here, who cannot make sense of how what happened to you, and so many others- actually...happened.
That's neither here nor there I guess... but I did want to let you know we are still currently awaiting trial for those who hurt you so much. And it's coming this year, little one.
Soon pretty girl. We won't forget. We can't.
Still nothing??
wiping my tears... heavy heart. WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG????
Are they trying to wait us out? That we will forget??? I WILL NOT FORGET!
To all of those who had a role in this tragedy... I will not forget... and on Judgment Day... I will stand up as a witness to the outrage of your actions.... (or neglect).
God have mercy on your soul. The fact that we have to share this Earth to the likes of you... God have mercy on us all!

Average N.C. Murder Case May Take Years to Go to Court
***article would not let me snip, but the reason it takes so long is explained at the link***
So, this is not just Shaniya's case. It's not swept under a rug. This is common in N.C. (I think it's common everywhere)

Hidden Costs For N.C. Courts
These are N.C.’s budget priorities: Kids first, cops second, courts and jails go last.
It goes for evidence. North Carolina’s DNA testing labs are overwhelmed with evidence.
It goes for people in jail. It takes an average of two years of discovery before murder cases go to tiral, and many defendants spend that time in prison – without a conviction.

North Carolina murder case languishes
Nearly three years after a North Carolina man was stabbed to death, two Batavians and a man from Cattaraugus County have yet to face trial.
"We have a backlog of cases," Burke County, N.C. District Attorney James Gaither said of a case that is not even on a future court calendar.
I second that, tlcox. Soon, Shaniya. This is the year. And I believe when justice comes, it will hit hard.
