I think it is one thing to bash family members at a funeral and properly sleuth the crime against Shaniya.

Maybe we need a thread dedicated for people to get out their emotions?

Paying child support does not make a good father nor does farming your daughter out to different woman to be their mothers.

Paying child support is certainly a step in the right direction, though. Plenty of deadbeat parents who don't even manage to get that right.

The father's work required traveling. That is a fact. Given these economic times, and his financial responsibilities to his children, I think it is reasonable to assume that it was necessary for him to keep this job in order to meet his obligations. So he relied on others to take care of her while he was out of town. While I agree that isn't an ideal family situation, I don't think I would characterize it as "farming your daughter out". I do think it is reasonable to surmise that guilt over that fact was one of the factors that led him to decide to give AD another chance to be a mother to Shaniya.

I think that is why they have The Parking Lot.

Shaniya Davis's funeral was held at Manna Church which is located at 5117 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville. More than two thousand people attended.

At one point, more than hundred people looked through the windows of the church door because they couldn't get in.

Bradley Lockhart, Shaniya's father, was not scheduled to speak but got up and encouraged the community to not get angry about the situation.

Those are all choices he made, he chose that job and his away from home time, nobody forced him. Shanyia never had a choice, she was forced by BL to give up all the good in her life and go and live in a trailer with a bunch of felons.

I feel when you force a child to do that then the law should step in when something bad happens.

Am I completely stupid here????? What pray tell,,,,is everyone who says he is a "victim" are they seeing that I don't????? On the contrary,,, I do not see him a victim...I see him a neglectful sperm donor......I guess Ill go by the wayside if I get banned for saying this...but I hope and pray for the sake of other children in Shaniya's shoes,,as I speak, that the ones who throw their child into harms way are prosecuted.....Period.

Hi, I am a new poster. I'm going to try to express my opinion as tactfully as possible, since BL is considered a "victim."

Shaniya seems to have had a very large family, but it doesn't seem she had anyone who was in her corner. This saddens me;I think if she had someone who was truly advocating for her, the story could have ended differently. I'm not saying she wasn't loved, but it seems her well-being was low on many priority lists. I can't imagine sending her to that horrific he##hole without making so much as a phone call to see how she was doing. I hate to say this, but in some ways, I feel she is better off in Heaven, because I feel her miserable situation would have continued indefinitely.

Can anyone explain the motive? I mean, did the mom plan to sell her daughter for drugs or has that not been discussed by the investigators? This case just makes me sick.

I want to just tell you guys something I have been holding in for days now. I have 2 boys and they are what makes me look forward to each and everyday. I guess I have been attached to this case because I was in a situation very much similar to Shaniya case but my children were in danger and no one would help me. My children's dad got on drugs after my last child was born prematurely I left when he was only 20 days old because it was just to much for me to handle. At the time I was a stay home mom and had no income. I moved back in with my mom who is retired and not alot of income. Well he took me to court and they gave him joint custody even though I told them about the drug problem they ignored it. He moved to Cumberland County to start over and he had no electricity no money as he was spending every bit he had on drugs and yet I still had to let my children go see him. I filed a Emergency Custody after many months of this back and forth and I had to prove his neglect and finely after $35,000 I have sole custody of my children and only if he can show that he has straightened up will he ever see his children unsupervised. I have dealt with DSS in Cumberland COunty and I think they are useless. They did nothing but do a home visit which was scheduled after giving them the run around for 2 weeks. The only reason I got custody was because of his landlord she testified of the conditions and told how bad things were. No thanks to DSS they said they had beds, food and approriate household for the kids for visitation. I know this is about Shinaya but I am consumed with this case because I have been there and dealt with this situation. I had a good outcome but only God saw me through this. As Me and my mom watched this today all we thought was this could of happened to us. I feel sorry for this family for there loss and I am not sure who dropped the ball but someone most definately did. I am so thankful that I was fortunate enough that this did not happen to me. I just dont know if I would be able to take it. I have made many contacts in the area and today was a sad day and all they have siad this could of been you but you stood your ground no matter what and you never took no as a answer. Well I hope all has a good evening. I am exhausted and glad that this Angel has been laid to rest.

I put more blame on the mother who actually live in a trailer with a bunch of felons. She was her mother!!!!! She did this IMO.
And, that is why she is in jail. She did this.

DrFessel-

I do not defend BL's actions in any way, but as far as the job, I know many people that have been forced to take the jobs they can get, be it in a different state, or an unconvenient shift, whatever.

I can't fault him for his job, and considering the economy, I can't fully believe he had a choice.

I love Websleuths......I think there are the most talented, intelligent, caring people in the world here. Today, however I am a little ashamed.

I looked in on another forum that managed to do exactly what we were asked to do at the beginning of this thread. They made today Shaniya's day with no negatives about the surrounding situation or characters.

We can do better than this. Instead of quoting negatives and replying to them, isn't it
better to just ignore??

I put more blame on the mother then BL and I put more blame on McNeil then both of them.

I refuse though to call BL or AD victims.

An article describing the funeral, a slideshow of the funeral, as well as a slideshow remembering Shaniya.

http://www.examiner.com/x-12837-US-Headlines-Examiner~y2009m11d22-Slideshow-Shaniya-Davis-funeral-video-photos

The video of the funeral: http://www.wral.com

I looked but didn't see a video of the funeral, just a clip of BL speaking at the vigil. Is there anywhere I can watch the funeral? I was out all day so I missed it. TIA.

ETA: Found it, nevermind!

I think BL is a victim. That's JMO

Not perfect, he has flaws, but he is a victim

This is a crime thread. Start a memorial thread. Anyone can do that.

LE has released very little info and investigation is still ongoing. We really do not know all of the circumstances and just are attempting to fill in the blanks.
I, myself, did not see anything wrong with the funeral service. Whomever did the organizing, has nothing to apologize for. ,
I hope, it made it somewhat more bearable for those individuals having horrible guilt feelings(if only etc. etc). And that applies to all of the grieving family, including AD's family. Funerals are for the benefit of the survivors and their memories.
Drugs appear to be the catalyst in this tragedy.

I think BL is a victim of the circumstances he helped to create...That's as delicate as I can get.
Creating the circumstances that leads to your victimization is kind of a gray area for me. But, I cannot consider him an innocent victim, for that reason.
