FAQ
http://www.legalaidnc.org/public/Give/ProBono/default.aspx#FAQs

What types of cases can be handled pro bono?
Potential clients for LANC offices are typically low-income persons who have legal needs in civil matters, such as credit or consumer fraud, landlord/tenant problems, child custody, domestic violence, public benefits and/or representation of victims of natural disasters. Sometimes referrals may also be made for legal assistance that LANC staff attorneys are not allowed to handle due to funding restrictions. Your PAI coordinator will work with you to ensure that you are comfortable with such referrals.

I do alot of pro bono work out her in California. To be eligible, one must make no more than one receives for welfare, disability, etc. Low income when it comes to Legal Aid agencies really means so desparetely poor one can barely survive. I can't recall her situation at the time, but even with a lawyer, I think BL would have won with a just a smidge of investigation. Boy, I sure wish he had tried.

Oh my, nothing like that has ever come out in the media.

I believe the speculation started after Coe stated that AD was at risk of losing the baby.

But why would DCFS be investigating itself in regards to Shaniya's case if they never had contact with her?

Maybe they did. I do recall hearing that DCFS had numerous contacts with the residents of AD's home.

I thought DCFS is investigating themselves over their investigation with regards to the report of abuse with Antoinette son.

Thanks. I was just thinking I had read somewhere that AD was in withdrawals and they were waiting to further question her.

Who knows, this has been on my mind so much I may have dreamed it.:waitasec:
BBM
LOL, maybe you did dream it after hearing this statement:

CNN.com - Transcripts
Nov 19, 2009 ... Cops say Shaniya`s mother, Antoinette Davis, sold her baby daughter into .... use drugs, get high on drugs, and avoid withdrawal on drugs. ...

BL could of told the story of 1 night stand to 'look good' for fiance'???
Maybe this is the story of his little boy in Fla also.
Like poor BL, 1 night and he has a child for life........poor me story

Oh the "speculation" and "rumors" run wild.

I'm trying to say that they were investigating AD...for Shaniya and HER BROTHER that was living with AD...The posts imply that they were investigating BL. NOT the case in that statement.

I understood what you meant. Because of this casual relationship AD and Brad had involving their daughter, I would think he might be served by having a family law attorney to advise him when answering questions.

Through the grief, family and friends revealed to ABC11 Tuesday that they offered to take care of Shaniya Davis in October, but Lockhart declined.

"I believe he is 99 percent the reason this happened in the first place," family friend Timothy Allen said. "And he came to me and he was like I'm going to let Shaniya go stay with her mom basically she needs to learn how to be a mom."

The Allen's have taken care of Lockhart's 17-year-old daughter Cheyenne Lockhart after they say he kicked her out on the streets.

Myrna Allen says during a recent visit to her home she noticed scars on her arms and asked the 5-year-old what happened.

"She says 'cigarette' and then I said 'from where,' she said 'my momma's friends,' and I said 'they were burning you with butts,' and she said 'some times'," Myrna Allen said.

Lockhart's former father-in-law, Byron Coleman, offered to take care of Shaniya, but says he was turned down too.

"He put the child in that position," Coleman said. "He knew the mother was doing drugs there. He knew that people she associated with was drug people."

Lockhart called the allegations speculation and said he wasn't going to talk about

Does anyone have the link to the interview with the person that said she wasn't supposed to be over there? I am trying to settle a question in my own mind. TIA.

Tim Allen has been caring for Lockhart's 17-year-old daughter, Cheyenne, since July. Cheyenne lives with Allen and his daughters, with whom she attends Pine Forest High School. Allen said Lockhart agreed Oct. 1 to let Shaniya stay with his family at night while Lockhart was gone and for her to spend the days at a day care run by Allen's mother. A day later, Allen said, Lockhart told him he had changed his mind.

"He said he knew she wasn't supposed to be over there, but he wanted to give her biological mother a chance," Allen said. On Oct. 3, Lockhart left town, Allen said, returning the day Shaniya went missing.

I've read that comment several times and still can't figure it out. So BL knew Shaniya wasn't supposed to be over there? So BL knew AD wasn't supposed to be living there? Only the 2nd interpretation makes sense to me. :waitasec: MOO

I believe you 100%. Do you think though there would still be hard feelings from the winner after all this time?

I do. Allegations fly during these proceedings. Parties are angry because the other one is fighting against what they want. And the get really steamed about the money they expend in attorney's fees and costs.
I had a client who won by a landslide in her case. Support. She got an award of $5,000.00 per month. She gloated a bit but hates him to this day. She was upset about how hard she had to fight to win and was offended by his offer ($2,000.00 per month) and the "facts" he claimed supported his low ball request.
In another case, I got the dad 50% custody up from every other Saturday, only. He also has sole, total control of other certain aspects of his kids' life now, where before the mother had the control. He acts like he lost! It can be annoying for me how vicious the parties can be.

On Friday, the director of the Cumberland County Department of Social Services released a statement saying the release of any information about the agency's involvement with the Davis family would jeopardize the state's ability to prosecute Davis and would hurt any current or future investigation.

They don't say that when there was no involvement. They say there was none. MOO.

From same article:One of Shaniya's uncles, Michael Davis, has told reporters that DSS investigated Antoinette Davis in the past. He said DSS investigated Davis regarding her 7-year-old son. The uncle told reporters that DSS completed its investigation, and Antoinette Davis was allowed to keep her children.

BBM.
In Antionette's case, children would have been Shaniya and the 7 year old.

I bet you could find it at Patty G's You Tube account... click on her siggy. It was a Nancy Grace interview with Shaniya's sister Cheyene.

Man I wonder why she was not supposed to be over there.

I have a feeling that is why BL got Shanyia when he returned from overseas.

He said AD raised her for the first year of her life.

Could something have happened during that first year?

Any way of looking up DCF records for 2004?

IIRC, he referred to the stress she's under, being in jail, and all. MOO Now to go look for Coe's statement...:online:

You can't look them up from any year. They are 100% confidential.
